Mr. Lewis had his Martians be friendly and benign--but also worshippers of the genuine actual God. In the decades since Mr. Lewis passed on, there has been plenty of secular interest in setting up friendly space aliens as SUBSTITUTES FOR God. When the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" came out, an article circulated in connection with publicizing the film. This article, alleged to have been written by Ray Bradbury, made a quantum leap in reasoning: it argued that alien beings existing AT ALL would be a clear proof that all things everywhere were part of one blended pantheistic oneness of the everything-ness. Oyarsa would be REALLY taken aback to hear that.
