Personally I've always been a fan of both Science Fiction and Fantasy.

So my personal favorites are:

a) StarGate SG-1 & StarGate Atlantis. Argueably they are the best science fiction ever written since Babylon 5.

b) Smallville

c) Lost

d) The 4400

d) Charmed & Supernatural.

Most of the shows I like were on 10-15 years ago. I don't get much into modern shows except Joan of Arcadia. I co-administrate one of the biggest Joan of Arcadia sites around.

I'd watch Boston Legal for all the witty dialogue but...that would be too much t.v. reading is better...but the occasional movie doesn't hurt...and I'd never miss the Charlie Brown Christmas...no way.

I try not to watch tv to much...I dont really like it....its so brainless...and you cant put down a movie and figure things out when you are confused (and if a book is good you should be confused at least once, thats my standerd anyway)and you cant yell at a movie....like if they are stupid you can always throw a book across the room but you cant throw a tv...also movies usally dont do justice to the books.....ex. Ella Enchanted, I dont think that the new LWW did full justice to the book either...

My family (when we had cable) watched M*A*S*H and Star Trek....but we dont have it anymore...my fav tv shows though are

1.M*A*S*H, I used to hate it....must have been an idiot child....

2.Star Trek....The old ones with Kirk and DSN are my favs....voyager has7of9 and that is my number in my family...and I LOVE 7of9 but Janeway gets on my nerves alot....I guess 7 is my fav character but overall dsn and Kirk are my fav of the shows...dont watch the new star treks the ones called 'Enterprise' they are really bad (I saw part of one once...they so stole from Kirk eeerrrrrggg!!!)

Forgot about Queer as Folk - very enjoyable series, particularly the way in which it smashed numerous taboos, the most obvious being its graphic depiction of gay sex. Of course, this means it is not really a series for children (of which there are many on this forum), regardless of the sexual orientation or gender of those involved in the activity on screen.

Another interesting point is that in the original British series, none of the principal actors were actually homosexual (at least according to what I've read). Which makes the acting all the more impressive.

My house has a total of... four or five televisions. I really don't watch any of them. (Well, I take that back. I occasionally watch DVDs down here in my room, but beyond that.) The only tv show I watch is Desperate Housewives, and even then, I've been watching the first season on DVD. :p Waiting for second season to get over with and published! (Yeah!)

I just... don't have time for tv. It doesn't appeal to me that much. I suppose the reason for that is, when I was about ten years old or so, my little brother squirted our only tv with a water gun, and it broke. We couldn't afford a new one, nor to get the old one fixed, so we went without television at our house for about three months. I got used to being without it, and haven't watched much of it since.

I've enjoyed media relating to homosexuality ever since I became sufficiently mature to drop the usual pubescent male homophobia. Its an interesting topic, from a sociological point of view, though I might feel differently if I'd suffered homophobic abuse myself. Academic detachment would be rather more difficult in that situation.

Haven't seen The L Word, though. Anything you'd particularly recommend about it?
