Well, since we have the most shockingly evil character thread I thought we needed the hero thread. While there are many heroes and heroines of Narnia I think that the greatest one of all is, Lucy.
Now just to clarify, i personally have never been able to stand Lucy, she is one of my least favorite characters. But I think that the reason I don't care for Lucy is precisely what makes her a hero.
Lucy has the most amazing faith. Every other person in narnia needs some sort of proof before they will believe in Aslan, or Narnia, or magic. Lucy simply accepts what she is told as truth. When Aslan tells her she is to trust him, She does unconditionally. Lucy also recognizes the connection between Aslan and Jesus being the same person and mentions this in later books. I am one of those people who needs to have an answer for everything, i have a very difficult time accepting things on faith. Lucy does this constantly and for that I say she is the hero of Narnia. It is a true hero who has that deep and unconditional of a faith.

I think Edmund can be considered a true hero as well. After he is rescued from the White Witch he changes his character completely. But what puts him out in my mind the most is when he breaks the Witch's wand despite the danger to himself.

Edmund has wronged his friends and family by trying to betray them to the Witch, but he redeems himself by destroying her wand. After the events in LWW he is a gentler, more noble character, which is how I think a hero should be. And also he begins to back Lucy and he is willing to believe as she does because he knows she was right the first time.

I think a hero is one who can admit he is wrong, will sacrifice himself, is gentle and noble, and has a certain level of chivalry. Peter has all those qualities too, but I put Edmund ahead of him on the hero list.

Don't forget the lessons he leared from his failure. At one point he urges clemency for the treacherous Rabadash because he [Edmund] knows that, "traitors can mend - I know one who has." I agree with you; sometimes the forgiven sinner is the greater hero in the end. Remember how St. Paul was stirred by the memory that he had at one time persecuted the Church!

For me the hero of Narnia is Edmund because even thought he betrayed his family he then learned from his mistake and started to think about other people not just himself and that leaves us a lesson that we have to learn from our mistakes and try not do them. Edmund is not just the hero of Narnia for me he is also the hero of our planet to.

i agree with onlymystory .
Lucy seemed to be sort of umm 'overshadowed' by the other characters, but she was the one that had faith and strongly held on to her beliefs no matter what the others thought of her.
She cared about other people first beofre herself. She didnt even think about what could happen to herself if she had gone to look for Mr. Tumnus. She insisted on helping him no matter what dangers lay ahead. She was even willing to go to battle with her tiny dagger for Aslan.

Lucy was defintely a hero of narnia.

I wanted to clarify my part, I love Edmund best out of all the characters in narnia, telmar, calormene, archenland, and the lone islands. I think he is a true hero for what he accomplishes after he is forgiven. And I love the picture that is painted by Aslan's forgiveness of Edmund as well. My point was that while there are many heroes in narnia, Lucy is the greatest hero because she is the only one who never needs any sort of proof. She has a great and lasting faith.

I think that Caspian has got to be the most heroic, he enlists all of the Old Narnians to help him fight his Uncle, believes in the "old stories" of the creatures even though it would not make sense to a "normal" person. His character is greatly showed on the Dawn Treader, willing to risk his life to find those seven lords. Plus the fact that he got to marry a star. Lucky. Oh, and we can't forget the countless years he spent trying to find his son.
