Here's a chance to compare and contrast the 2 portrayals of Mr. Tumnus from the BBC mini series and the Walden/Disney movie.
Mr. Tumnus was done well in both movies. The BBC version was a bit older and he had a costume as opposed to CG legs, but he did a good job in grasping the character. In both movies I also noticed that Tumnus was regarded as sort of a notary as far as his supposed occupation was concerned.
The house in the Walden version was incredible with the special effects which helped enhance the performance of James. Also, James and Georgie were incredible together and he made everything so believable. I was beyond impressed with Tumnus in the Walden version.
What do you all think?

I agree that both actors did very well. It struck me as odd that Andrew Adamson thought making Tumnus younger would make him seem less like a child abuser in the implications of kidnapping Lucy; it _isn't_ only old persons who abuse children.
Did anyone here see the movie "Hotel Rwanda" starring Don Cheadle? It's a gripping, suspenseful movie, based on real events, with a hero who has this in common with Tumnus after Tumnus turned against the Witch's orders: both heroes are extremely vulnerable themselves, _not_ possessing fabulous warrior-powers, and are trying to thwart an overwhelming power of evil--and this makes them MORE heroic as they do what is in their power to do.

Personally I think that if someone tried to kidnap me, I'd want to avoid them. But, Lucy returns to see Mr. Tumnus while Ed is talking to the White Witch. In some ways I think that they'd have to play down the original intention to make that part believable. If they'd made it more of a big deal then it wouldn't make sense for Lucy to want to go back and see him again. I wish though in the Walden version that they'd have had Tumnus describe what the Witch was like and what he thought she'd do to him as is done in the book. It would have flushed his character out some more.

Well, Lucy surely does understand that Tumnus didn't have to let her know what was happening, and didn't have to change the plan and save her, yet he did! So I can believe her trusting HIM after that. But what about the rest of Narnia? If anything strains my credulity about this stage of the story, it's that Lucy, even _after_ being warned that Jadis might know she was there, would take the insane risk of going back into Narnia alone, not knowing whether someone with less conscience than Tumnus might be waiting for her.

I think that the newer tumnus is ADORABLE! (in a cuteish/hot sorta way) while the actor himself isn't bad looking, i prefer him with the tumnus makeup

I thought the newer Tumnus was more 3-D. I actually liked the movie character better than the book character.*shrugs*

Do you mean that he appears to be more developed as a person in the movie? I agree that James made the character extremely lovable. He just had a way of drawing one in to the story. I found it interesting how Andrew gave him more scenes, such as in the White witch's castle.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the character of Tumnus in HHB if they make it. I wonder if James will return. Hope so.
I wish that the BBC people had been able to make the last few books in the mini series. They did well with the first few books....I would have loved to have been able to compare the last few. Ah well....

I think in this case Lucy has a marvelous gift from God and that's her ability to truly understand someone from their perspective rather than hers or someone else's. She can recognize with ease what true repentance is and responds with forgiveness and mercy just as Aslan or Jesus did. She is one who will give anyone a second chance. It also shows in the way she treats Edmund even when he is mean and spiteful towards her. She is always the one reaching out to him in love. That is why in Prince Caspian, she is the first to be able to see or discern Aslan's presence. She knows how to love.
