Hey guys, I just wanted to know which Professor did you like better? The
one from the BBC LWW, or the Professor from the new LWW by Walden and
Disney?
Personally I actually liked the BBC Professor better. He just seemed more
like what I had pictured him to be. But I'm intrested to hear what you guys
think. So pick your favorite and tell us why.
Thanks!

Jim Broadbent was hardly even given a chance to show his stuff. Even in the not-very-extended version, he is deprived of some of the Professor's most important lines of dialogue.
But this gives me a chance to mention something. Years ago, in connection with a charity project being done by comedians called "Comic Relief," the BBC allowed a special comical "Doctor Who" story to be videotaped. Its hilarious plot took the Doctor through several rapid regenerations, one of whom was portrayed by Jim Broadbent! The name had no meaning for me at that time. Just recently I viewed that program again, saw Mr. Broadbent's name in the credits, and tried to spot him. If not for ending credits making the roles known, I would never have recognized him; there he looked and sounded entirely different from his role as the Professor.

I prefer the BBC professor, since he was the only one out of the three movies to do the entire conversation with Peter and Susan from the book, which happens to be my favorite part of LWW. He also seemed more of the "batty old dear" then the WM one, in my opinion.

I've forgotten what the professor in the BBC version was like, but I really enjoyed the one in Walden's. He was very believable, and he was funny and...I just overall thought that he did great.

My problem with the Walden version of the Prof is not Jim Broadbent's performance, he did magnificently with what was given to him; the problem was that not enough of the original dialogue WAS given to him!

I agree. Thats one of the things that bugged me about the Professor in the
new version. Not enough of the original dialogue! In the BBC LWW they kept all of the Professor's lines almost word for word like the book. I mean
Jim Broadbent didn't get to say any of the funny lines. I have no problem with him as an actor, he was really good.
Although they did make his hair a little crazy!:p

I liked the W&D version, but he needed more dialogue like Copperfox said.

I agree with you Lady of Lantern Waste...I did like the way that Jim looked in the movie. The character of the professor was based on a man C.S. Lewis had as a teacher or tutor when he was younger named Kirkpatrick. If you look at pics of the real Kirkpatrick, Jim's character resembles him more. Jim did great with what he was handed...he just wasn't handed enough.

I thought Jim Broadbent did a much better job as the Professor than the BBC one. I do wish he had some more dialogue, but he actually looked and acted like I thought the Professor should. Not that the BBC one was bad, but I just didn't think he brought enough to his character. One of the things I really like about Jim's Professor was how he reacted to hearing about a forest inside the Wardrobe, and then upon finding the Pevensies, asking what they were doing in there. It just showed me that he really was Digory Kirke, and he still had the memories of Narnia and the longing to go back. (as shown at the very end with Lucy). And then of course he delivered my most favorite Profesor line perfectly: "What do they teach in schools these days?" It's a classic.

Jim Broadbent was the best by far...I think he brought a lot to the character even though he had a minor role
