Does anyone know where the Chronicles says something like, "He is not tame, but he is good." regarding Aslan? I'd appreciate a reference and, if possible, a more direct quote.

Thanks in advance.

That would be in the house of the Beavers in Lion. I think the fuller quote runs something like this:

"Safe? Who said anything about safe? Of course he isn't safe! But he's good, I tell you!"

This was Mr. Beaver in response to one of the children asking him if Aslan, being a lion, was safe.

I thought there was a reference to him not being a tame lion and being "good".

In the chapter, What Happened After Dinner, Mr. Beaver says of Aslan:
"'Course he isn't safe. But he's good."

At the end of TLTW&TW, Mr. Beaver also says, "He'll often drop in. Only you musn't press him. He's wild, you know. Not like a tame lion."

I'll also add a quotes page to the Narnia Confidential wiki!

It is a scene from "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" where the children are hearing for the first time of Aslan the Lion, the allegorical Christ figure of the book:

"Ooh!" said Susan, "I'd thougth he was a man. Is he--quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion."

"That you will, dearie, and no mistake," said Mrs. Beaver, "if there's anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they're either braver than most or else silly."

"Then he isn't safe?" said Lucy.

"Safe?" said Mr. Beaver. "Don't you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you."

I could have swore there was somewhere in the book where it said, "He isn't tame, but he is good."

I was already aware of the mention of his not being "safe" found in LWW. (Not that I don't appreciate all your efforts, of course) But that isn't what I was looking for.

I think you're conflating two quotes. "He's not a tame lion" (or variations) appear throughout the books, though primarily in the first and last. The juxtaposition of his goodness with something else is the reference to His being safe, as glamel and NarniaConfidential quoted
