View Full Version : Turkish Delight, please, Your Majesty!

I bought the BBC Chronicles of Narnia yesterday at Best Buy (I was fortunate to find the boxed DVD set of all three movies) and have watched LWW and TSC, but I have not yet watched Prince Caspain & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I must say that, although they didn't have the sort of technology we enjoy today, they did a marvelous job of making the films! The drama and acting were delicious, and they stayed very true to the books (with the exception of a few added scenes). Most of all the wonderful Christian themes that Lewis meant to have in these fairytales were left in the BBC movies, which touched my heart greatly. And the costumes and puppets were very cute.
Now, then, I don't know if anyone yet has posted this (if they have, forgive me!) but I wanted to share something that may be useful to you for the holidays:
www.homevision.com/turkish/ (http://www.homevision.com/turkish/)
This is a direct web page to a recipe to make Turkish Delight. I have never tasted this before, but I plan to make a batch for the holidays and see how popular it will become (maybe it will be something to pass on to future generations).
Please enjoy!

Here in Australia, Turkish Delight is readily available and is produced by our biggest Chocolate company, Cadbury. My personal opinion is, that Edmund had vastly different tastebuds to me. I have never really found it as anything to desire, but, that was Edmunds taste.

Turrikish Delight... It's alright, but not the best. (Ya! Ricky, a fellow Aussie, in this land of Yankies and Poms!)

Dear me Elindil, there are far more of you then us poor Brits!!!
And Curumo, I wouldn't be too excited about making it. You may be in for a nasty shock..... Not the nicest confectionery in the world!

Well, the ingredients of lemon slices and an orange peel do sound a little odd...but, may as well give it a try, at least once...

I doubt if it was the chocolate-covered turkish delight, probably more like the stuff you can get in wooden boxes at Christmas, covered in icing sugar. But I agree, it isn't what I would have asked for if I was given the choice of anything to eat. (I'd've chosen caramels. ;) )

I'm very curious....I've never seen the BBC versions, and would like to know more about the added scenes.
If you have the time, it would be great if people added information on the differences between the books and the BBC versions to the complete Narnia database that we're building:
http://narniaconfidential.com/The%20BBC%20Movies
Thanks!

Hi WHB, good to hear from you!
I've already put something up for the upcoming Disney/Walden movie, so you can probably crib formatting from that page:
http://narniaconfidential.com/The%20Disney%20Movies
Basically, I just listed the differences. If you want to get more fancy, you might break it into three categories: additions, omissions, and changes.
Of course, you don't have to do it the way that I did...that's the beauty of a community site!
Thanks,
Chris

Turkish Delight is one of my favorite desserts. Some people don't like it though. My aunt is going to make some for Christmas!

yep, Turkish Delight is readily available in Australia - although it is the chocolate Turkish Delight not the one just covered in white icing sugar (forgive me if im wrong!!) so it does not seem that bad to me as I have never tried the other version without the chocolate!!

I don't know how you all like it! It's sickly sweet stuff. Like the type of chocolate cake that looks delicious on the outside and meanwhile you take the first bite, and you want more. But then, after you've taken a second and third, it's just all too much.

I found it to be truly delicious stuff, and am planning on ordering more. I don't see what there is lacking as far as its taste goes. Hmm...to each his own.

I tried some one time. I thought it was delicious. It is rich though. Most people don't want to eat that much of it. I seemed to eat more of it than anyone else at the time though but rich foods don't bother me.

It's really up to your opinion whether you like it or not, I guess. I think where you get it from might also have a little to do with it. I'd eat it again anytime, but most people say it isn't their thing.

I saved a clippiing from a newspaper that had an article about Turkish Delight. You can make it yourself by going to www.narnia.com, click on enter Narnia, then click on the White Witch's Castle. If you go towards the castle gates, there's a box of Turkish Delight to your right. Click on that, and that will download the recipe for you.

I've never been much of a candy eater so what exactly IS Turkish Delight? I saw on ebay a bag of these fruit flavored 'Turkish Delight' for sale but somehow I was under the impression that Turkish Delight was more like a nougat type of candy.

No but it's chewy I imagine. There's a huge candy store, one of those old fashioned kinds that sells candy in big wooden barrels, in this historical little town nearby where I live, so I'll search for some over there.
