The fourth Harry Potter movie is coming out on the 18 of November. I just looked at the preview and found that its going to be rated PG-13! Crazy isn't it, how adult these movies and books have become. Not kids stuuf anymore.
The movie looks pretty cool, but sort of scary. I think many people are anxious about how Warner Bros will present Voldemort's return.
So what does everyone else think?

I've read that the book was gory enough so I can understand the movie being PG-13. I've seen some of the first movie and I've read 2 of the books. I don't know about this movie though.

For sure the books get darker and darker as the series progresses, so no wonder Goblet is PG13. It looks like it is going to be scary, and exciting, and I hope it will be good.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if one character uses the "s" word, and the movie is slapped with a PG-13. I believe that because there will be a lot of "scarey" action and the fact that Cedric (a student) dies, that the movie is warning parents that they had best be watching with their children and be ready to explain, comfort, et al.

PG 13 is okay, we all know kids do understand this kind of stuffs, they are more mature now and they think wide enough :D

well i saw it last night and well i am shocked by the crowd. Its even nerdier than LOTR or Starwars, but maybe thats because they are just younger, lol. But the movie, i think i need to see it a second time to give it a good review, but it just feels rushed and very little character development. Just action action action is what it feels like, but voldemort was brilliant and moaning myrtle is sick as usual. So yeah, thats what i noticed, but its not too bad, just too fast for a story the size it is. I really hope they come out with extended versions and stuff, would be wonderful if they started doing that.

Really? That's weird because we were the only people dressed up in our theater.
Anyway, I liked the movie. Did Voldemort have red eyes? Because they looked blue to me.
borntofly
11-19-2005, 07:11 PM
I saw it last night, and it sort of just opened up and began and then kept rushing onwards. If I hadn't read the books, I'd have had no idea what was going on until they actually got to Hogwarts. It took me a bit to figure out where eveything was headed.
I was surprised that Voldemorts eyes weren't more snakelike and red. Ralph Fiennes's performance was all right. I always imagined Voldemort's voice colder than what it was and more sinister. The effects were marvelous but Voldemort's return wasn't that chilling and not evil enough. I mean it's Voldemort! He's the most evil dark wizard! It was a scene that wanted to be scary but wasn't.
For the most part the movie wasn't the best, but it had enough of the book in it to get by and the actor's were good. I still miss RIchard Harris as Dumbledore.
tgraveline
11-20-2005, 06:38 PM
i thought he was quite good in my opinion, but yeah, i don't think the eyes were right. I really think he played it out like the book. Also, my friend had not read the book, so i don't think he liked it all that much due to not knowing what all was going on. It was too fast paced with not enough info. almost as if you had to have read the book before seeing it to know what was up.

i really liked this movie. it was dark but not too scary, i think they did a good cut of the book as in they put what they had to and chose the right things to cut. i thought voldemort wasnt evil enough he didnt sound or look as evil as he should, i thought that the whole goblet of fire bit and when harry brings back cedric was excellent, i thought b4 hand that harry wouldnt be able to act that bit well, but he did a really convincing job. Moody wasnt how i imagined him but the way they did him was really good.
i cant wait to see order of the pheonix, i really hope they make it darker because it really does get dark now on in and i think if they make it soft just so kids can see it, the book and film will loose its effect of fear with the return of voldemort.

I think it's still very much a movie for kids. it was rated PG-13 for the creature/human violence (i.e.- Cedric's death) and the tense moments. there isn't anything i would call an "adult theme" in the movie. overall, i think the right message is given; harry potter has a nice body, as seen in the prefect's bathroom scene. but seriously, this movie rules.

Finally got round to seeing it yesterday..verdict,,Brilliant!!
It's a shame they had to cut out so much, I would quite happily of sat there fro another hour or two, but I think the majoirty of people would've not appreciated it as much!
Ralph Fiennes was great - I was a bit worried they'd give Voldemort a really 'unatural' voice- all raspy and creepy, but because they've kep it fairly 'human' (which in essence he is) it gives him a little vulnerability whihc will work well for whatever happens in book/film 7.
Moody was hilarious, and Casanova/Dr who David Tennant, whoever thought he could be so so nasty as Barty Crouch Jnr - fabululous!
The ball scene was great- really well observed from the 'real life' events.
Snape, even though he had a back seat in this one, was superb, I kept giggling everytime he strode in or out- a real pantomine baddie!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!
U hav da lucky rating it M (mature audiences for 16years and over) in New Zealand.
Its not that bad coz i saw it yesterday with my friends.
They didint make it that bad, it was alot betea then how it was described in the book written. It was a good movie (but not as good as Narnia)
Monkeh
12-12-2005, 03:09 AM
Actually. The NZ rating of M doesn't mean Much. I was buying my own tickets and going into M rated movies with friends without any adults when we were 14. It's the PG's and the R-(13, 16, &18)'s that they actually check for. In a lot of movies theatres, they are told not to bother with the M rating unless they kids look Really young (like 11 or 12) and are unaccompanied.

Move your body like a hairy troll

Boogie down like a unicorn
Don't stop till the break of dawn
Put your hands up in the air
Like an ogre, just don't care
Can you dance like a Hippogriff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Flyin' off from a cliff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Swooping down to the ground
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Around, and around, and around, and around
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Go around like a scary ghost
Spookin' himself the most
Shake your booty like a boggert in pain
Again, and again, and again
Get it on like an angry specter
Who's definitely out to get ya
Stamp your feet like a leprechaun
Get it on, get it on!
Can you dance like a Hippogriff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Flyin' off from a cliff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Swooping down to the ground
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Around, and around, and around, and around
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Can you dance like a Hippogriff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Flyin' off from a cliff
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Swooping down to the ground
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma
Around, and around, and around, and around, and around

The Yule Ball could have been longer, and I would definately have liked to see Rupert in more of the movie, but over all it was a beautiful film, gorgeous to look at and it had it's moments.
Dumbledore was completely ooc, and Hermione as well...it was a blue dress for the love of Pete  LOL but the movies deviated from the books a long time before, I still loved it. GoF caught the spirit of the book, and the growing darkness and I think that was perfect.

12-21-2005, 03:22 AM
I think the seventh book will easily be out before they even start HBP. Ootp is slated for a November 2007 release...yeah, they start filming in January, so uhm...it really only takes JKR about two/three years for each book, if you don't mind the long gap between PoA and GoF which was on account of personal issues and some lawsuit that turned out to be false...so...*shrugs* I'm sure the series will be done.
I worry more about the actors finishing the series, and filming HBP and the last book together wouldn't be such a bad idea...I read that somewhere. Gruelling maybe but what better way to get it all in the can and retain as many of the same actors as possible.
Still that's too far ahead...I'm just interested to know who's going to play Luna and Tonks...LOL

I totally loved cedric and mad-eye was great!
Voldemort just got his body back after like 13 yrs of relying on others to look after him and he was basically hanging in the void, so if that were me i woud totally be running around energetically.
It was creepy that he had no nose!
I saw LLW after GOF and i have to admit that LLW was quite a bit better, not to mention the fact that peter was way more attractive than harry!
Although Cedric and Krum totally make up for that!
And how cool was fleur?
Although, as mad-eye himself said, "Fleur Delacour is as much a fairy princess as I am!" they rather made fleur out to be quite wimpy.
When shes running around the maze shes all freaked out and she even cries and she screams alot, but cedric, even though he is as equally freaked, is all tough and kind of "Get out of my way!"
Still loved the movie anyway!

Mr. Potter has gotten hotter. ANybody agree with me? emma was alright too i guess and cedric was like so lame i mean was his death supposed to be sad, people in the theater were like tearing up or however you spell it and what happened not enough Sirius and dumbeldoore was actually afraid in this movie, the actors have actually improved a little that's all i guess wait and i havce to tell this i've figured out my cousin and i are like harry potter nerds but were not nerds at all we were like after the movie we talked with a british accent all day it was so fun

Call me critical, but I liked the other Harry Potter films a lot better than this one. The handling of it was strange, the wonderful John Williams compositions was missing, and the sets were inappropriate. Bear with me while I try to explain.
At the beginning of this year, I started researching monasteries for a novel I'm writing, and I spent a great deal of time throughout this year at monasteries as a guest. I enjoyed this time, and it gave me the wonderful chance to learn not only about the church, but also about the architecture of them. One of the sets from the latest Harry Potter film was in a cloister of a monastery which having done this research totally destroyed the feel of the film for me. I love the cloister that they used no question, it was beautiful and emanated history, but it had 'monastery' (not 'castle') written all over it and thus, proved to be a huge disappointment from the past films. The use of the monastery was a big mistake, I think. What happened to that really great looking castle that they used in the past???
That alone made the entire experience a massive let down. I was spending more time staring at the cloister than picking up the dialogue.

Most of the outdoor scenes that weren't during the tasks, were taking place in the cloister, but the one that stands out in my mind was when Moody turned Draco Malfoy into a ferrett.

I've been to a number of castles here in Germany, and I can guess that they were trying to reach that effect, but IMHO, they failed miserably, because the castle courtyard and the monastery cloister are two separate things. I guess I'm only overly critical because of the research I did. :)

I can understand why they had to miss things out, like Hermione's S.P.E.W and things like that, i do however feel that you need to have read the book to understand quite a few of the things that happens and why they happen in this one.
I think that the beginning was rather rushed, i would have liked to have seen a bit more of what happened at the Quidditch world cup, and more about the conjouring of the Dark Mark as well.
The Yule Ball scene was simply awesome, it was much better than what i expected it to be and Hermione's argument with Ron at the end of that scene is Emma Watson's best peice of acting yet in my opinion, i thought most of the acting was great, especially Dan's, much improved since the last movie.
The first two tasks were great and really well done, i was a little dissapointed with the third task though, it looked set up very well, but there was no boggarts, skewts or other creatures for them to battle, they went straight to Krum being put under the Imperius curse and Harry and Cedric getting to the cup at the same time.
The scene where Harry brings Cedric back was fantastic and for me was the best scene in the film and is well done by everyone involved, i would have liked Barty Crouch Jr to have explained what happened using Veritasum a bit more than what was said, i think that it would have helped those who had not read the book understand the movie better.
Both times that i have seen it at the end the whole cinema applauded and cheered, ive never experienced that in a cinema before and for me that was just a sign of how good the movie really was.
Overall i thought it was a very good film and certianly much better than what the first three were, and thats saying something because the first three were fantastic, this gets a 9/10 for me.

There are a lot of great elements that combine to make only a good movie.
The action was badly paced, the climax was obvious, the enemy was great though typical. The length of the film isn't carried very strongly in a lot of respects, great scenes seem to not fit well together and about halfway the film just seems drawn out.
The ultimate measure for me of whether or not I like the film enough to recommend is if I check my watch at any time during the movie to see if it's almost over. I did that twice during this one.
The flight with the dragon was good, the underwater sequence was dissapointing... not dramatic or fulfilling. Even the last scene, with the death... you just don't feel that keenly enough, he's never made large enough for the film.
CGI and music were fine, really liked the personality of the different schools.
None of the characters are given enough personality. Harry Potter is victim to all the action, he never directs it. As the protagonist he's always the victim of circumstances rather than actually being an active protagonist, even into the end sequences of the film. Crazy eye was the only character given a spot of real personality, and at that he was still a bit too overplayed.
The first two were 7s - 8s, the third was a 9 or slightly higher but this film is a step down in the direction of the movies, an 8.5 at best.

I thought that the movie was good...but a bit of a let down. Everyone had been saying that it was fantastic and then there I was in the theater, wishing that this scene was added, that there was more dialogue. I do have to say that for me, it made you feel like time was moving by quickly. And that's great in a movie , but I wish it could've been longer. Like King Kong for example, wasn't that movie like 3 hours long? And I know that if the Harry Potter movie had been three hours long, that most of my friends (die-hard HP fans) would've sat through the whole thing, and still complained it was too short. Though I thought the Dragon scene was very impresive, because Harry had to act to nothing. JUSTLIKEINNARNIA!
I'd give this movie a B

That was a awesome movie!!!! They were meant to be Adult Books anyways.
I love this movie<3 Emma was so beautiful with her dress. But I have to say, that my expectations were bigger..
Mad-Eye Moody. He was totally different than I had imagined! The eye was terrible, and his behaviour was.. weird. Of course I know everything can't be like in the book, but... arggh.
And Voldemort wasn't so scary at all. Everybody said that he is so scary, but I don't think so...
Young actors were better. Emma is the best ;D

I ruined the film by going Who IS that guy everytime I saw Barty Crouch and then finally yelling out OMG it's Doctor Who ya know David Tennent and annoying everyone in the cinema.............

Well, I didn't like the movie as much as I expected. The movie contains many wonderful scenes and many great effects (the Hungarian Horntail was pretty well done), but there are also many letdowns.
First of all, Lord Voldemort. I didn't like Fiennes' acting, it made Voldemort lose the legendary cold blood which characterised it in the books and in the first two movies. IMHO, that kind of acting would have done well for Sirius Black (which in fact is already portrayed wonderfully by Gary Oldman).
Second, many important plot points were left unexplained. I'll write here some examples: 1) Barty Crouch's death: who killed him and why? 2) What happened with Harry's and Voldemort's wands? Dumbledore begins explaining with "Mmmh. Priori Incantatem" then goes "Dark and difficult times lie ahead". So what? 3) Why is Peter Pettigrew called "Wormtail"? (this is a plot hole left by The Prisoner of Azkaban and not only it isn't explained here, but also they he isn't even called "Pettigrew" any more...
Third, the continuity has been messed up. Well, it was already messed up in PoA, with secondary actors changing (except for Richard Harris), and now misusing several Hogwarts location (the stairs that led to Trelawney's classroom now are used to exit Moody's classroom, which should have been in the same location of PS or CoS).
Now, for a person that is only watching the movies and not reading the books that's not a wonderful, perfect story. They could have done more and better.

I know what you mean. Though the second time i went, which was this week, i enjoyed the movie more so. I just hope they do an extended version to remedy some of these points in the plot.

The first three movies werent too bad for those who hadnt read the books as i think that they tell the story pretty well, but i think that for the Goblet of Fire the movie is a lot harder to follow if you havent read the book.
I think that the main reason for it is that the Goblet of Fire is a much much bigger book and they had to try and fit so much more in, although i personally would have prefered them to make the film longer or even split it into two.
But overall i thought that it was a fantastic movie, Goblet of Fire is by far my favourite of the books and it is my favourite of the movies so far as well, although i do prefer the book to the movie.

They could have cut away Barty Crouch sr. completely, using him only during the Pensieve scene. His lines could have been said, for example, by Dumbledore or Fudge. The explanation of Priori Incantatem wouldn't have taken too much time, just 1 minute or 2. Another thing that they could have cut is Rita Skeeter, making her appear only in the fifth film. They would have had a 2 1/2-hour film (like the first two) and all the explanations would have been given.
As for Wormtail, well, it's a "plot hole" created by GoF calling Pettigrew with his nickname, but it could have been resolved in PoA, as it should have been. In fact, PoA is about 20 minutes shorter than the first two movies: that is to say they could have used a little part of those 20 minutes to explain this background story.
But, as I said, Goblet of Fire is a fantastic movie for effects, directing (the last shots are far more than just excellent) and acting (except for Ralph Fiennes). This is, overall, a fine movie, but because of its poor adaptation from the book it can't be considered, IMHO, the best of the series. At this point, Order of the Phoenix has the potential to be the best of the series (it could easily have been GoF, but they didn't use that potential), and I'm looking forward to see that movie as the #1 Potter film.
P.S.: If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that OotP will be released in 2007...

I'm looking forward to that one, but it like the most emotional of the books for me. Like how Harry is mister everyone hates me and all that stuff. Basically going through the adolescent stage of seeing the world hating on them, lol. He pulls through though at the end and understands stuff, but he is now emotionally scarred after that book. So it should be one with a bit more character development than was in this last movie, which was like the arnold swarzenegger version of the harry potter books, lol.

The fourth Harry Potter movie is coming out on the 18 of November. I just looked at the preview and found that its going to be rated PG-13! Crazy isn't it, how adult these movies and books have become. Not kids stuff anymore.
So what does everyone else think?
I'm glad it's no longer "kids stuff" as you put it.
The series is definitely advancing towards more mature audiences as the plot thickens.

The movie looks pretty cool, but sort of scary. I think many people are anxious about how Warner Bros will present Voldemort's return.

i think the harry p. movie are kiddish but i will always see them because i think ron is hott.
