I like the part in TMN when the animals think Uncle Andrew is the "Weevil" or "Neevil" or whatever they think Aslan said, and then they think he's a tree and they try to plant him and all that ... it's so funny!

What about uncle Andrew thinking that the Witch is beautiful and that she might fall in love with him?! "A dem fine woman, sir, a dem fine woman. A superb creature."  Poor, mislead man. ;)

Oh, one of my favorite funny characters is Rabadash in HHB! It is sooooooo funny when, during the Battle at Anvard, he jumps down shouting dramatically,
"The bolt of Tash falls from above!"
only to get his chain-mail caught on a hook in the castle wall and to stay hanging there while everyone laughs at him!
If I remember correctly, when I was reading the series aloud to my sisters, I couldn't even read that part because I was laughing so hard at the mental image!

Or when he gets turned into a donkey! And all of a sudden he starts braying instead of talking and he freeks himself out ...

Ha! What about when he (Rabadash) tries to intimidate the kings of Narnia and Archenland by wiggling his ears and rolling his eyes and so Lucy thinks he's going to be sick. Poor fool!

Or all those times Reepicheep and Eustace argue ... they're such a funny pair when they get together; always bickering and insulting each other. :D

Okay, you'll probably think me wierd when I say this, but that's fine.:D Every time I read LWW, I crack up when Aslan tells Peter to never forget to clean his sword. I don't know why. It should be a solemn moment for Peter (he just got knighted and all) but for some reason I always get the funniest mental image of that scene.

I always thought that part was funny too, just because it's so irrelavent, and Aslan acts like it's a very important thing. :D Of course, in a way it is, because if you think of it, if one leaves blood on their sword and puts it back in the sheath, the sword will rust, and when one needs to pull it out again, they won't be able to - the sword will be rusted to the sheath. I guess that'd be a bad situation to be in. <_<

Y'know, I took that thing about cleaning your sword very seriously. Dunno exactly why, it just sounded important... so I made sure to always wipe my foil off on the edge of my jacket before putting it away at the end of the period last year in fencing class. Made no sense, though-- there was never any blood on it. Now that you guys mention it, it is kinda comical, in an irrelevant sort of way.

thats when one takes off his sheath and starts beating the snot out of the colormens with it ;)

 Whatever works, I guess.
I think the idea of cleaning your sword might be a little more philosophical, too, though, not just practical. I'm not sure exactly how... but there must be some meaning to it.
Is it the idea of purifying yourself? Or maybe respect to the dead? I don't know...
But I'm getting way off the subject... sorry.

Because it worked.
You are such a goofball, Leaf. ;)
Okay... so another funny moment in Narnia. How about the one in TSC when Jill and Eustace (with the help of a talking owl) are trying to explain to Trumpkin the Dwarf (who is now Regent, and very old and deaf) who they are and why they are there, and he misinterprets everything they say? It's hilarious.

yes that is funny.yes fairy i was welcoming them to the post. <_< another funny moment is when in p.c. at the end the man beating the child with a stick?and it turns into a flower. i believ he turns in to a tree also  .

How about in VODT when those mer-people shake their fists at the people in the ship, and Reepicheep jumps in all angry, and then finds out the water is sweet and tries to tell everybody but all that comes out is bubbles? Almost anything Reepicheep does is funny - except when he leaves in his little boat ... :( I always cry at that part ... I cry so hard. It's so sad to see him go ... anyway, I like all his funny parts. :)

Someone mentioned before the scene where Rabedash gets caught on the hook.
What's even more funny than that is how Corin taunts him about it later. I burst out laughing everytime I read: "Does it ever get caught on a hook halfway down?"

im afraid i never got the '' does it ever get cought half way down?'' can someone explain

Y. Fish
05-30-2004, 04:51 PM
Hokay, so here's the sitch: Radabash is standing on the top of a wall. He says, "The bolt of Tash falls from above!" because he's trying to be all scary-like and strike fear into the hearts of his enemies an whatnot. So he jumps down with his sword flashing and his arms waving and generally being as scary and fear-striking-into-heart-ly as he can, and he gets caught on this hook that's sticking out of the wall. He's just dangling there halfway up the wall, which douses his attempts at being very intimidating. Then when Radabash is in the castle later and he's saying how even though he lost the battle Tash will reign down vengance upon the Narnians, he uses that same "Bolt of Tash falls from above" line again. So Edmund wittily interjects with "Does it ever get caught on a hook halfway?" Hardy har har.

Gleeleaf
05-30-2004, 05:52 PM
Huh, yeah, obviously he's talking about the Bolt, so revorently spoken of

Another funny thing is the young lion in LWW that Aslan changes back from stone in the White Witch's castle. He's very funny. So is the giant in that part. :)

the bit i always laugh at is in SC when glimfeather is talking to the old-aged trumpkin who is a bit hard of hearing:

Glimfeather: Two strangers, my Lord.

Trumpkin: Rangers! What d'ye mean? I see two uncommonly grubby man-cubs. What do they want?

Jill: My name's Jill.

Glimfeather (loudly): The girl's called Jill.

Trumpkin: What's that? The girls are all killed! I don't believe a word of it. What girls? Who killed 'em?

Glimfeather: Only one girl, my lord. Her name is Jill.

Trumpkin: Speak up, speak up. Don't stand there buzzing and twittering in my ear. Who's been killed?

Glimfeather: Nobody's been killed.

Trumpkin: Who?

Glimfeather: NOBODY.

Trumpkin: All right, all right. You needn't shout. I'm not so deaf as all that. What do you mean by coming here to tell me that nobody's been killed? Why should anyone have been killed?

Eustace: Better tell him I'm Eustace.

Glimfeather: The boy's Eustace, my lord.

Trumpkin (irritably): Useless? I dare say he is. Is that any reason for bringing him to court? Hey?

Glimfeather: Not useless. EUSTACE.

Trumpkin: Used to it, is he? I don't know what you're talking about, I'm sure. I tell you what it is, Master Glimfeather; when I was a young Dwarf there used to be talking beasts and birds in this country who really could talk. There wasn't all this mumbling and muttering and whispering. It wouldn't have been tolerated for a moment.

When I was reading "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," I almost did not find much stuff funny, because I might have taken the story really seriously by reading on what's going on. It's still good, though.

I'm pretty sure i found some funny bits in the books but i can't remember them just now and since I don't have the books...well i guess that's all i've got to add. I do remember Puzzle was always rather pathetic and the ape (don't remember his name) was rather funny when he was pretending to be weak and what-all ajnd puzzle of course, the poor dear ass that he is, believes him.

Well, I think I've got one to add. That was in SC when the kids and Puddleglum met the Witch and the black knight at the bridge and I could at this time imagine who really was in all that armour and I knew they wouldn't find out. Or when later on the Witch took the instrument and put the leaves into the fire I knew they wouldn't think that the wicked witch, putting smelly herbs into a fire, playing a monotone tune and being an enemy and all, was actually going to cast a spell on them. Let's just stand right here with our weapons drawn, the prince rescued and the witch be-witching us. That's just all right. She only wants to play. Doesn't do any harm. Really.

My favourite is always going to be in VDT when Eustace grabs Reepicheep's tail and swings him round in the air, abd Reepichhep manages to get his sword and start attacking him! And they get into the galley and he says,

"I ask your pardons all... and especially their Majesty's. If I had known he would take refuge here I would have awaited a more reasonable time for his correction."

Classic!

When I was a kid I didn't like him all that much, but now Puddleglum cracks me up-- particularly in the Harfang castle when they decide to put on a show of being happy and "frolicsome" to keep the giants from suspecting anything.

Also, regarding the "never forget to wipe your sword," I think that it is actually supposed to be a bit funny. Reading through them as an adult, Aslan while still intimidating seems to have more of a sense of humor than I remember.

Other parts I thought humorous in my most recent read of the series include a lot of the Reepicheep stuff, Trumpkin's outbusts and the first time Edmund calls him our DLF, and some of the names. (Nikabrik, Pattertwig) In Horse and His Boy Lasaraleen is funny("and you'd see such a lot of me!") as is Bree who is really full of himself. I also liked the part of Prince Corin's story where, after escaping from the Watch, he comes across the original boy who had insulted Queen Susan and knocks him down again.

I also particularly enjoy Narnian silliness, like the first joke, and planting Andrew as a tree, but also the rescue of Edmund in LWW, the Moles' suggestion in Prince Caspian to dig trenches before the War Council and Feast. Also the rescue of Jill, Eustace, Puddleglum, and Rilian during the snow dance in Silver Chair, and in Horse and His Boy their reaction to Shasta's talk about an attack on Anvard strike me funny.

Welcome to NarniaFans Goladus....
...I agree completely about Repicheep being one of the most amusing characters (especially whenever Eustace is involved)...my favorite one is when Repicheep realizes he is missing his tail...

Welcome, Goladus, I didn't see you post before.

I love that Puddleglum getting tipsy in Harfang -- tries to say he's a very respectable Marsh Wiggle and ends up calling himself a "reshpectobiggle" or some nonsense. Tee-hee. Reminds me of my DAD! :p

(It does remind me of my dad, rest his soul, but he was a decorated war veteran and a witty raconteur, so please don't think any the less of him.)

i have to agree. the first time i saw it i was almost on the floor. puddleglum is not the tipsy type really. i like the part with reepecheap and eustace as well but not as much as puddleglum.

Hello everyone,

Reading all these responses makes me want to read the CoN again...this year... My favorite funny moments were in the Magician's Nephew, the animals in Narnia.

The first is with Aslan, the jackdaw and the first joke. The second the entire part when the animals notice Uncle Andrew, deciding what to do with him, the bulldog all indignant, the elephant all pompous, Uncle Andrew running alot faster than he'd ever had...it was so funny.

The first few reads of Con is was the Duffers, still find them highly amusing!
Deaf Trumpkin at the start of SC, and of course good old Puddleglum getting sloshed, although I think i find that funnier because I'm older and have *hangs head in shame* experienced similar embarasments.

i didnt really enjoy the part of when euctace swings reepicheep by the tale, im a major animal lover and i HATE seeing or hearing about animals being teased or hurt ect. So i never found that part very funny for me lol/
