Ok, my roommate got me hooked. I already appreciated Richard Dean Anderson in Stargate SG-1, but I hadn't been exposed to him in the role that made him famous: MacGyver. I admit, the situations are a bit outrageous and it doesn't have the finest acting around, but what a fun show. The third season just came out on dvd and my roommate's threatening on buying it. fun stuff.

Anybody else MacGyver fans?

Ha ha ha, where are the sisters when you need them. I mess with them about the show all the time, but i used to watch it when i was younger.

I've got all three seasons on DVD so far. They're very sad sets as none have special features, but the show is worth it, in and of itself.

Funny, the ant episode is the one that sticks out in my mind too. It was like a horror flick.

So.... for us young ones - what was MacGyver?

Dragon

MacGyver (Mac) was the guy who could fix anything anyway, usually bringing nothing but a pocketknife and having to make do with what else was around. He would often have a voice-over of himself narrating certain scenes. A classic is the opening scene on the very first episode. As he's climbing up a sheer rock cliff to rescue some guy in the mountains, he starts out "When I was a kid..." and goes off talking about this ol' palamino horse. classic. And it just fits perfectly.

Oh, and "Trumbo's World" is a classic. "Oh no! The -- the ants are coming, MacGyver!"

Yeah. He had a pocket knife and a backpack. He was always collecting things lying around and putting them in his backpack. Then when something needed fixing or such, he would use whatever was in the bag and his trusty pocket knife.

Yep, quite a resourceful fella. Me, i wouldn't think of any of those things, i'd just use a gun, unlike him. But didn't he shoot a gun in one episode?

Yeah. But he had no other choice. The guy was about to kill someone, can't remember who though.

I'm almost through watching season 1! hm, I'll have to purchase a copy for myself when I move away from my roommate.

..i recall Mac using a gun to release a pressure valve or something atop a nuclear plant's cooling tower. But it wasn't the traditional use of a firearm. (he used it as a wrench, noting the situation to himself in the wonderful voice-over commentary that he does)

OH I love MacGyver!!! That's one of my favorite shows! When we lived in Iceland, it was one of the few American shows that we got, and we watched it a lot. I wasn't very old at the time(2 & 3), but I remember a bit and I've watched every episode I could since. I'd really like the DVDs, but I don't really have 30$ for each season right now! :D

Me and my mom love that guy. He is so funny the way he uses sarcasm. We've almost watched every SG-1 episode with him.....but I have yet to watch a full episode of MacGyver

My Mary used to love McGyver too.

My favorite line of O'Neill's in SG-1 is when the Gwaould lord who had once tormented him was begging for help against the Replicators, and O'Neill said, "I've got a better idea: how about if we just watch you get your a__ kicked? Then you'll be dead, and we'll be happy!"--with a boyish smile at the end of that line. I loved this, in spite of the fact that I _hated_ the Replicators. I hate alien menaces (like Q in Star Trek) that are so nyah-nyah-I-win-no-matter-what unbeatable that the good guys can't do anything at all about them, and only survive by dumb luck.

Jack does have some great lines! We use them all the time... they're classic!:D

Jack was very different from MacGyver and it took me a while to get used to the sarcasim and flyboy attitude! :p

Yeah,he left quite some time ago.But the stupid thing is,they might not continue stargate sg-1!Just because some of their ratings went down when they moved some other shows time.
