Is winning always a good thing?

I do not believe so. If you enter a sports competition, seeking to outscore your opponents by winning first prize, then it is certainly something worthy to strive for. But it doesn't always guarantee happiness or satisfaction. Many times, it's quite lonely at the top. And winning in terms of having an argument or a debate with someone, or even a fight, isn't always the right thing. Oh, you may feel a surge of satisfaction because the other person decided to throw up their hands and discontinue the argument, but in the end, even though you won, it doesn't mean you were right for it. So in certain cases, I don't believe winning is always a good thing.

Pardon me while I muddy the waters. ;)

Winning is always a good thing. Coming in first in the secular scheme of things is not always a good thing.

This earthly life is impermanent, fleeting, transitory. We should emerge from it having loved and been loved, having left the world a better place, and having turned our minds toward God. Those are the only three things that can truly be won, and so winning is always a good thing.

Becoming Mayor of Rodgersville, Queen of the Senior Prom, or taking first prize in the Fall Squall Potato Sack Race is dandy, but none of that matters when you die.

I can say with conviction winning is not always a good thing. What if HItler had won? that would not have been good. People who win the lottery are rarely satisfied. i have heard plenty of stories about broken relationships, all because someone had too much money from the lottery. Winning can get to peopl'es heads. sometimes, i think we need to loose. While it is somethign we should strive for, we should not HAVE to win.
I think the only prize everyone should win, always, is the one spoken of in the Bible:
That i might gain the prize for which You've called me, even to share in the suffering of the cross.
Thats my opinion.

I like the point about what is hitter had one. It is beter to stand up for what is right and lose than to not fight and loses anyway
