Flying horse, that could take you places. Definitely flying horse. Or centaur, they seem to know about the stars and be very wise. In books.

ive always liked minotaurs, even though in Narnia they fight for the WW. I just think they are so cool and excellent warriors. But so are cenaturs, they are wise, strong, they are great in battle, and they seem like they would be a loyal friend. Same with unicorns, like jewel he was a loayl beast/ friend to tirian, I dont know what my fave would be though, mostly all fantasy creautures are beautifyul on there own way right?

I'd want a flying horse for a friend too, and a unicorn friend like Jewel was to Tirian. I wouldn't mind meeting a good talking animal either.

Minotaurs have a nasty habit of liking the taste of human flesh. Centaurs, unless they are descended from Chiron, are nastly, unlettered brutes. The Serpent of Eden was supposed to be a dragon. Pixies, Elves, and other Fae have a nasty habit of stealing human babies, and playing nasty tricks on people. All in all, they are just like us.

I'd like to have a naga as a frined, as long as its one of the non-demonic types.

Blame the Victorians for our ideas of the Fae, and fairy tales. the Fae where not cute little creatures with wings, in the least they were capricous, and at worst they were nasty cruel. Even help from the "Good Guys" could be a double edged sword. Originally, fairy tales where like Stephen King or Dean R. Koontz novels. Movies have gotten the "Bad" fairies right, but the closest to a why "Good" fairies acted was the character of Lucinda in Ella Enchanted.

i dont think all elves are bad, but when i think of elves i think of the lotr elves. Or if i could have a SATYR for a friend, like this one- the picture i attacthed, thats would be wicked, i think this paticular satyr is cute, for a weird creature, i havent seen any other pictures of satyrs b4 so..

Satyrs rock! Elves in the original mythologies were evil. I personally hate even good-guy elves... They get on my nerves  A dwarf would be cool, even if they are rather greedy mercenaries who in the myths turn to stone in sunlight.

Yeah, I guess the coolest thing would be a dragon though. :)

ya im not as fond of dragons, but they are neat, i thought that trolls were the things that got turned into stone when they were in sunlight? Ohwell, thats ok, it probabl;y was dwarves. Complete misrepresentation of Greek mythology in that movie... Tsk tsk... ;)

And Hades was NOT evil... honestly... so much stigma attached to ruling the disembodied souls of the dead... :D

Let's face it, turning a book/mythology into a movie is nearly ALWAYS going to be a bad idea, with a few minor exceptions, but they're mainly in the dark and twisted genre of movies/books. Otherwise, if it's already a book/mythology... DON'T turn it into a movie, please.

unleavened
09-05-2005, 02:46 PM
Well, this is generally true, but there are some books that have been made into movies that have been good. Tuck Everlasting anyone? That was SO much better in the movie than the book. You just can't expect the movies to measure up to the books. Look at LOTR. They were good movies and good books, but if you thought the movies were going to be just like the books, you'd be disappointed.
Again, with the opinion/belly button thing.

Hmmm, not my first choice, but an interesting one...

I think mine would have to be a dragon- unoriginal but can you get more amazing? (oh, and he would not be a Sam-eating kind of dragon, he would be a Sam-protecting and chilling with kind of dragon).

I think a centaur would be quite cool to have around to chill as well.

Oh, and I must be annoying for a minute. RE: Pegasus. He wasn't anybody's horse- too special and too quick and strong for anyone to catch. He sprang from the body of Medusa when Perseus cut off her head. A guy called Bellerophon tried to captue him, but Pegasus wasn't having any of it, so he flew off into the sky and became a constellation.

Elves in the original mythologies were evil. I personally hate even good-guy elves... They get on my nerves  A dwarf would be cool, even if they are rather greedy mercenaries who in the myths turn to stone in sunlight.
Neither of these are true statements and I will argue the point if you like.

Gryphon

you know what? that's creepy. and elves can be very bad. elves arent always tall, i mean look at the keebler elves, or Santa's little elves. the short kind of elves could give you some trouble. and they arent creatures, they're beings and beings can be corrupted. at least, in most stories i've heard it's that way.

You wouldn't want to be friends with a satyr, they are wild and unpredictiable, and if you a female, well, they can't take no for an answer.

Bellaraphon got Pegasus with the help of a magic bridle given to him by Pallas Athene. He rode Pegasus when he went to kill the Chimera. Years later, he tried to fly to Mt. Olympus, and Zeus blew him off Pegasus' back.

In Norse mythology, there where two types of elves, the Lios Alfar (Light Elves) and the Svart Alfar (Dark Elves). There are mane different versions of dwarves, in most legends, its the trolls who turn to stone when sunlight hits them.

Still, even the good guy fairies, the Seelie Court, are not the type of creatures that you would want to have a friends.

Gryphon
09-21-2005, 12:06 AM
funny thing is, i know excactly what your talking about. but i guess i should expect that from a person named Green Knight. heh heh, where's Sir Gawain? ok im done. you right about the seelie court, but you dont want to encounter the unseelie court either. and you should never accept food from from the unseelie in the unseelie court. that would be BAD.

well, yes there were good satyrs. there are also bad ones even if they arent in the Narnia series. It all comes down to who is writing the story. From what I get, satyrs are the ones with the nasty habit, but Fauns, the Italian cousins of the Satyr, where a little more civilized. Also, according to another source, fauns had legs like those of a deer, not a goat, and no horns. It think they were supposed to symbolize the wild places and the people that lived in them.

Imps live like primitive, stone age gnomes. They are nastly little buggars and a couple have wings but not typically. Imps also have no hair...at all. And they look nasty. Nope, they are the same angels, just with different names. Chrisitanity did influence Islam after all.

Angels: The Children of Light
Djinn: The Children of Smokeless Flame
Humanity: The Children of Earth

There is a Djinn lord called Iblis, but he is the ruler of the Djinn who did not accept Mohammad as the Prophet of Allah, or humanity's place in the hierarchy above the Djinn. (Though I am probably wrong.)

In that L'Engle book "Many Waters," the djinn are presented as the sons of God who married human women in Genesis 6:2, before the flood. It is a very intriguing book, as you get the sense these beings are evil, yet they aren't doing anything particularly evil, just careless, and you don't know whether they and their families were wiped out in the flood, or if they were able to save their human brides -- or where they might have gone. Did they become demons? It's a mystery.

Did they become demons? It's a mystery.
I never read the book, but I know the theory. It's certainly interesting, though I'm fairly sure I don't buy it.

You know what I mean, inkspot. Of course it would be horrible to hear a screechy-voiced animal, I'm just saying it would be neat if ANY animal spoke to you-wouldn't you rather an screechy-voiced animal speak to you then none at all? :)

Yah, I was kidding. I am writing a story about a shrimp right now, and he has a very high, wheezing voice, as you would imagine a shrimp would. :)

I'd like a friendly Dragon to protect me and give me rides, a pheonix because then they wouldn't die. and a faun because they could talk to me, although dragons can talk it may not always be intelligent conversation
