If you could take your religious/philosophical beliefs and melt them all down into just one word, what would that one word be? Please, just your OWN beliefs, and nothing negative about another's.

My word would be "love".

I believe that the ability to love is the one thing which truly shows that we are children of God. God is the ultimate Love and by loving everything on Earth we are so close in contact with this divine force. I see love in everything around me and I basically try to love all around me just as much... I feel that we all deserve love in life and that it is our cure and our protection against "evil". In nature I see the ultimate Love of Creation... in nature I most clearly see how much God holds us all dear... and therefore I have chosen to let nature be my church.

There are no words which can describe love adequately. Many have tried, many have failed, many have given it meaning and many have chosen not to define it at all. I know that love is the ultimate power pattern in the universe. Without love, there is nothing left. There would be nothing without love. Everything would lose its meaning.

So yes, I melt every single one of my philosophical and religious thoughts right down into this one word. It is the only word which holds enough significance for me. It's the only word I have never abandoned in the past and it's the one word I choose to live by in present and future. I love. Therefore, I believe. Therefore, I am a human being. I simply love.

The word love is wonderful. But I think the word "family" is even better. Because when you're in a family you not only get to enjoy the pleasure of enjoying other's company, you incur the responsibilities of promoting their wellbeing and keeping faith with them.

there are so many words!! 'love' and 'family' are great...i would also have to say 'submission' because you would do anything for God...you just sort of yield yourself to Him...

I would say love too. When Jesus was asked what they most important camndes were he said to lovwe the lord your God with all your mind, haert, soal and strenth and to love your negbour as yourself. Thats what is most imporant to christans. And we are saved noot becase of what we do, but because God loves us, that is what we belive.

One word to describe my beliefs and faith? Easy.

Jesus.

Jesus is my entire belief system. I believe in what He did for me on the cross. I believe that He is the son of God. I try to live my life the way Jesus led His, although its not nearly as easy as I'd like it to be. I try to follow the verse in Hebrews. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
The way I figure, all the stuff about love, family, respect, honor, and all that is just what Jesus taught. So I believe in Jesus.

Hmm, this is interesting, there was another topic on a language and philosophy forum like this the other day. I suppose mine would be objectivity, though this is sort of anti-religious. But it's concerned with what I believe, I suppose... I just try to always keep an open mind when thinking about anything, and try to step back from how I'm feeling about it to look at what it is actually about and what needs to be done to make it better in a way removed from emotion or faith.
