No. She's too old for the part, and I'd like to see a less well-known actress for the part of Aravis. I'm also not a big fan of Keira's acting so for me she'd be one of the worst choices.

NO! OK - this is really getting on my nerves. People are making threads every second for '_________ to play __________?" "Johnny Depp for Caspian!" "Liam Akien for Caspian" and now "Keira Knightley for Aravis"?????????????????!!!!!!!!! stop - seriously. Unkowns is the best choice.

She is way too old for the part. You can do anything with make up, but that's too much.

what is up with people suggesting actors/actresses that are WAY too old to play the suggested parts? I mean, most of them are fantastic actors & actresses, and they probably would play the part very well, but they are just not the right age-level.

Actually I don't think Knightley is 'way too old' at all. She's what, only 18-19 or so? That's only a handful of years older than Aravis, who was about 14. Keira looks young for her age. Johnny Depp is 'too old' to play Caspian because he's about 20 years or more older than Caspian's age. But Keira too old to play Aravis? No. I just picture someone a lot more 'ethnic' looking to play Aravis.
shes to pretty to play aravis and to old.

I still think Keira's a bit too old for Aravis. But I agree with the 'ethnic' thing. I don't really like the idea of ANY well-known actors and actresses playing the roles. Especially ones that should be children. I don't want the children in the books to be played by adults in the movies just because they're well-known.

My thoughts exactly! Personally I think Anna Popplewell n' William Mosely were a lil too old to be playing the Pevensies, as Peter's only supposed to be 13 @ the time of LWW, though they played them well. :D

very true...I had a small issue with their ages when I saw it, but I got over it because I think I like it better with them older. It makes it easier to believe Peter could take such a mature kingly role. But its like...yea..he's not 13...and now he's going to be 19/20 playing a 14 year old *cough*

*Groans* NRRRGGG!!That seems wrong for some reason or another. But then again, if they can convince the audience they're 14 year olds then that makes 'em even better actors. :D

I don't think they're convincing anybody...either the ones who have read the books and know have accepted it :p or the ones who just go to see the movie don't know that that isn't how old they are supposed to be
But you have to admit... you can't really see anyone else playing Susan or Peter, can ya?

so just a different picture in your head? I understand that. that's how I am with Harry Potter. no matter what, when I read the series, I still have my own versions of them in my head. Not the actors. I suppose that's because I've been reading HP wayyyy before the movies though. I only read Narnia for the first time about a month before I saw it in December.

I read the Chronicles of Narnia in about October of last year, and got lotsa images in my head of it. Not so with Lord of the Rings, I saw the movies(xcept Return of the King) before I read the books. In late 03 while I was awaiting the release of RotK I read the Hobbit n' then RotK 'cause I was impatient... :D So I guess I imagined the characters and places to be like the movies...

exactly, so your idea of the book was shaped by your perception of the movie. I guess because I'd only gone throught the chronicles once before seeing LWW, it just didn't sink in and so the actors made an imprint on my brain.

Are you guys sure about this character age thing? Because I have a new book that analyzes everything about the ages and times and stuff of LWW, Prince Caspian and all the other Narnia characters, as well as a time frame of the difference in time between Narnia and our world. Peter seemed to be 18, not 14, in the story.

Honestly, IM, I never trust those books, they lie like crazy...I'm preety sure that Peter was younger, but I always imagined him at the age of 16, so WM was a preety good choice for the movie (in my opinion that is) except Peter has always, and will always, have brown hair for me. (I've known the stories for forever)
As to Knightly playing Aravis, I've a few problems with that:
1). Aravis should be darker, more 'ethnic' looking, as IM said.
2). There are days that I like Knightly's acting, and days that I just think 'What is wrong with this chicks acting?' For some reason I have an on again off again liking of her acting, so if she played in HHB and it was one of those days when I disliked her acting that I went to see it, it would totally ruin the movie for me, and I couldn't even appreciate it for what it was worth.(first impressions tend to stick with me)
3). I really really REALLY do not want known actors in the movie, (I know that Jadis and Aslan were played by known actors, but oddly that didn't sink into my head at first, if Knightly played in it...I would just go craaazy)

Really? I've got one where it says Peter is 13, Susan is 12, Edmund is 9/10, and Lucy is between 8 and 9 in LWW.
Also, a timeline I found on thelionscall.com has it that Peter was born in 1927, and they stayed at Professor Kirke's house and got into the wardrobe in 1940, making him 13.
Even if Keira was young enough, I doubt I'd want her to play the role anyways.

I have only read a few chapters of horse and his boy, and when I think of Aravis' character, Keira Knightley fits perfect. They can make her look younger also. They do that alot by taking early twenty year olds and making them 14, 15, or 16 year olds.

I'm joining the bandwagon here: Keira's far too old for the part. And besides, I have this vision of Elizabeth Bennett in my head. Far too mature for the character of Aravis, or so I think personally. I never saw Aravis as being entirely mature (even though she was always rather serious, a reflection of her upbringing). She always appeared very sassy, and somewhat condescending, though later we see the development of her character throughout HHB, and a very happy ending of course. :)

Well, I guess we'll find out when the film comes out :)
Anyway, im sure Kiera Knightly and Johnny Depp are too busy with other films like Pirates of the Caribbean... and other films

NO WAY.
She's too old. And I don't think she'd look anything like Aravis, no matter what wonders make-up can do. Plus, it should be me =P (That's what I voted :D)

Personally, I feel that since Aravis is Calormene, a Persian (Iranian, Pashtu) or an Arab actress should play the part. An English or American (of European descent) just wouldn't fit (too cliche'). So no on Keira Knightley. Just my two cents on that.
See ya on the flipside,

Keira can't play Aravis...o_O aren't the Calormene people supposed to be dark skinned? tan? Keira is white... (not to sound racist) but she's doesn't look the part besides that she's too old. the girl who plays Aravis has to be in her early to midteens or atleast look it. and Keira is too well known now to play her, they need an unknown

I don't think soooo. .
Why her? She's just some skinny chick. Not someone I would even think of for the part. .

I do like Keira Knightley, but I sort of imagined Aravis being younger...and I never imagined her being dark haired either. So the perfect person to play her would be....me! :D Honestly I would really LOVE to do that, but when that day comes,I'm probably like 20 years old or something(which is one year younger than Keira is now :p)

Heck no... I have lots of reasons: Keira's too old, she doesn't have the right Calormene "look", she's too sexy and pouty to pull off the role of a young girl forced into an arranged marriage... An unknown is much better.

I think Keira is way to old to play Aravis! In the book i think she isfrom 11-14 years old so I think that she should be played by an acress that is not well known and is forign like from India or some where in Asia because in the book Lewis describes the Tarkkans as people like with dark skin like that wear turbins and i picture them as people from India.
