Vicky Beeching to Perform, Speak on Lewis at Disney World’s ‘Narnia Day’

Christian artist Vicky Beeching is going to be performing some songs, but mostly, she says, speaking on C.S. Lewis for ‘Narnia Day.’ Part of their Homeschool Days.

Next week I am speaking at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. I’m singing a couple of songs too, but most of it will be me speaking about C S Lewis. They are holding a “Narnia Day” centered around the Prince Caspian exhibit they have there. Apparently there’s someone dressed up as Caspian, and some scenes from the movie rebuilt that you can walk around. So watch this space for a photo of me and Prince Caspian!

The day is for HomeSchoolers…so it will be fun to tell them about C S Lewis and what a hero he’s been to me. They also want me to tell stories about my time in Oxford and the different ways that C S Lewis ‘met’ me through the places he used to teach, live and hang out. Fun times!

Since Disney has dropped out of the future Narnia projects, I have wondered what they planned on doing with the “Journey into Narnia” attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. But it seems they’re going to keep it around, at least through their events that will feature it.

If anyone goes, can you please submit a report about it?

Prince Caspian Attraction Grand Opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

An attraction based on the second film in The Chronicles of Narnia series, Prince Caspian, officially opened on June 26, 2008 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In attendance at the opening were Prince Caspian, who rode in on horseback, Warwick Davis, who plays Nikabrik in the film, and Dave Hoffman, Walt Disney Imagineer and Art Director for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

After a short introduction, guests find themselves within Aslan’s How, a chamber that plays a prominent role in the film.

The attraction is targeted toward fans of the Narnia series who already know the story of Prince Caspian. A full plot summary is delivered via movie clips, touching on most of the major twists and turns in the film. If you haven’t yet seen the film or read the book, this attraction may spoil it for you (just as many other Disney movie-based attractions could for their respective films).

According to WDW News Today, Disney has put out a press release for the upcoming ”Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian” exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

Scheduled to open summer 2008 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian will offer guests interactive experiences. Guests will be able to:

-Enter the fascinating world behind the making of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

-Meet Prince Caspian

-Explore Aslan’s stone table chamber set

-Experience an exclusive opportunity to see behind the scenes footage, original concept art, storyboards, props, and costumes from the making of the film.

Other sources say that they will need until around June 24th to finish the exhibit. If someone could contact us with confirmation, it would be splendid!

Warwick Davis talks Prince Caspian

For a few weekends every year, Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park becomes an outpost of a galaxy far, far away — unearthly characters in getups beautiful and bizarre roam the streets, browsers congregate at an exotic bazaar to choose among limited-edition treasures found in few places throughout the galaxy, and everywhere can be heard the immortal words “May the Force be with you.”

This year, “Star Wars” Weekends will take Disney World Guests out of this world on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, between June 1 and 24. And, as he has been almost every year since the event began, actor Warwick Davis will be on hand to sign autographs, ride in the Legends of the Force Celebrity Motorcade, and meet the fans who make these weekends so special. Warwick found his acting career launched when he played Wicket the Ewok in “Return of the Jedi,” and he still has a special place in his heart for the “Star Wars” films and the fans who love them.

Last year was a special one for Warwick — he not only participated in “Star Wars” Weekends, but got to host. “It was really the most wonderful event for me,” he says. “I would have loved to have hosted again, but I’m so busy working on the film at the moment, and the schedule wouldn’t allow me the four weeks I would have needed to work on the event. I’m a bit disappointed, because I had such a good time last year,” he laments.

The film in questions is “Prince Caspian,” the second in Disney’s “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, and Warwick has a plum role as the wicked dwarf Nikabrik. “I do like playing baddies!” he admits. “As an actor, they’re always the most memorable roles. It’s a part you can get your teeth into — sometimes literally!” He says the cast has been sworn to secrecy — but that fans of the first film, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” will not be disappointed.

Warwick will be back and forth working on the film until the middle of June, but he was determined not to miss “Star Wars” Weekends altogether. Especially this year, when Lucasfilm Ltd. is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the “Star Wars” Saga. It’s a dilemma, but one for which Warwick has proposed an answer: “I wish there were three or four of me — I need to talk to George Lucas about a bit of cloning!” he laughs.

We’re still waiting for that day. In the meantime, you can meet the one and only Warwick in person on June 1 through 3 at this year’s “Star Wars” Weekends.

Starz Presents the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Sweepstakes

Starz Entertainment shows you the secret behind the wardrobe door with the world television premiere of Walt Disney Pictures’ and Walden Media’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” on Starz Saturday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) and the “Starz Presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Sweepstakes.”

The “Starz Presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Sweepstakes” begins on Saturday, Sept. 16 and coincides with the Starz On Demand and Vongo early premieres of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” The sweepstakes runs through Monday, Oct. 23 and features a grand prize trip for four to the Walt Disney World® Resort near Orlando, Fla.

“We are giving our subscribers a chance to enjoy the magic of Disney with the world television premiere of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe‘ and the coinciding sweepstakes,” said Patti VanDerGang, manager of consumer promotions for Starz Entertainment. “We look forward to bringing the land of Narnia to life for our viewers and to make the movie interactive with the ‘Starz Presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Sweepstakes.’”

Iger lauds film, park tie-ins

Robert Iger, president and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Co., said the Orlando area will be the beneficiary, as Walt Disney World Resort continues to grow through its synergy with animated and live-action films.

Iger — along with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo and Walt Disney World Resort President Al Weiss — made comments at a Community Partners Gathering breakfast at Coronado Springs Hotel, near the Animal Kingdom theme park on the Walt Disney World property.

Iger hinted that the 2005 live-action film “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” could be the next successful film product to translate into a theme park product. The second “Narnia” film, based on a series of books by C.S. Lewis, is in pre-production.

“One of the things we do when we create a Disney film is we create a franchise,” Iger said.

Picking up where we left off on Tuesday: After a brief stop outside Mr. Tumnus’ house …

It was time to visit the prop & costume gallery portion of Disney-MGM’s “Journey into Narnia: Creating the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” walk-through exhibit. Which seemed to mostly focus on the White Witch. For here on display was Jadis’ sleigh …

Her magic wand …

… as well as a costume that Tilda Swinton wore while playing this villainous role.

Jadis’ evil minions were also represented. Here you see a clay sculpt of a minotaur, which was used in preparation for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” ’s big CG-laden battle scenes.

“Journey to Narnia” exhibit brings C. S. Lewis’ fantasy world to life

Last week, the Walt Disney Company and Walden Media officially announced that they had begun pre-production on “Prince Caspian,” the highly anticipated follow-up to the hugely popular motion picture, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Which wasn’t really a surprise. Given that — to date — this Andrew Adamson movie has earned $636 million at the box office (I.E. $282 million during “Narnia” ’s domestic release, plus an additional $356 million from the motion picture’s overseas release).

And — given that “Narnia” looks to be the film franchise that Disney Studios has been desperately seeking for years now — there’s already been a lot of talk on the Web about what the Imagineers can now do to capitalize on this success. What WDI can do to bring C.S. Lewis’ characters to life in a theme park setting.

To date, Disney’s in-park “Narnia” -related efforts have been rather modest. Disneyland has a White Witch meet-n-greet, while Disney-MGM Studio theme park has its “Journey into Narnia: Creating the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” walk-through exhibit.

“So what’s this exhibit like?,” you ask. Well, WDW guests who line up outside of Soundstage 4 are first treated to a short making-of film. Which explains how state-of-the-art visual effects and scenes that were shot all around the globe were combined to create the magical world of Narnia.
