Today, C.S. Lewis, creator of Narnia, Screwtape, and Mere Christianity, brings us a warning that modern science–a good thing–could be hijacked to attack faith, undermine ethics, and limit human freedom.
A new short film premiered November 19th on Youtube, The Magician’s Twin, highlights C.S. Lewis’s views on science, scientism and society.
You only need to look around you to see that Lewis was prophetic.
- “Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist,” claims one scientist.
- “It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while,” insists another.
- The chief medical editor for NBC News, meanwhile, argues that eliminating handicapped babies through abortion is “pro-science.”
- A biologist at the University of Texas contends we need to reduce the human population by up to 90% in the name of biodiversity.
As The Magician’s Twin reveals, Lewis has important things to tell us about this growing abuse of science, and he offers penetrating insights into many hot-button issues of our time, including evolution, intelligent design, bioengineering, moral relativism, and even the role of government.

West directed the documentary and is the editor of the recent book of the same name, which features essays about Lewis’s views on these subjects from 10 Lewis scholars.
