More ‘Dawn Treader’ Set Photos

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

We received word from MundoNarnia about some new photos that have surfaced from the set of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at The Spit.  It seems that a lot of progress has been made in the last few days.  If they’re shooting the film right now, though, the set doesn’t appear to be ready.  It’s close, though.  There is still no word as to who has arrived in Australia for the film shoot, aside from Skandar Keynes.  All that I know is that it’s on schedule to make it’s release on December 10, 2010, as scheduled by Fox and Walden Media.  It’s sure to be a good way to spend the holiday season, and to bide our time for The Hobbit a year later.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader: November 2010 Release Date?

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

I just caught wind that the third film in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, may be released in November of 2010. This is a pretty traditional release date for some fantasy films.

If this pans out, it would be a delay from the original May 7th release date, that is now also occupied by Iron Man 2.

More as it develops.

Iron Man 2 faces off with Voyage of the Dawn Treader?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Iron Man 2 has apparently been pushed back a week to a new release date of May 7, 2010. This puts it head-to-head with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

This brings up a few questions:

Is this just a typo, or has Iron Man 2 truly been moved to that date?
Has Dawn Treader been pushed to a new release date, opening that spot up for Iron Man 2?
If so, when will Dawn Treader be released? Is it now due at Christmas?

We’ll get to the bottom of this!

Prince Caspian DVD and Blu-ray release date-further confirmation

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian DVDAlong with the official press release from Disney, I have gathered some further information of Prince Caspian’s DVD and Blu-ray release on December 2.

I work at a Suncoast store at a mall near my house, and my manager, who knows I’m a NarniaFan and that I write for this site, told me personally about the news. Along with the BluRay and single disc edition of the film, there will be a three disc “special edition” DVD.

I did some digging around to find what the special features would be and managed to locate a complete list from TheHDRoom.com. Here is a look at the bonus features included on the BluRay edition will be:

Disc 1:

Audio Commentary with Director Andrew Adamson

BD-Live (Blu-ray exclusive)

Circle-Vision Interactive: Creating the Castle Raid (Blu-ray exclusive)

Disc 2:

The Bloopers of Narnia

Deleted Scenes

Inside Narnia: The Adventure Returns

Sets of Narnia: A Classic Comes to Life

Big Movies Comes to a Small Town

Previsualizing Narnia
Talking Animals and Walking Trees: The Magical World of Narnia

Secrets of the Duel

Becoming Trumpkin
Warwick Davis: The Man Behind Nikabrik

Disc 3:

DisneyFile Digital Copy.

Special features for the three disc edition of the DVD will be the same as on BluRay except where other wise indicated.

From the sounds of it, there might not be a Prince Caspian Extended Edition like with the first film. Unlike the Lord of the Rings, in which they had to cut a significant ammounts of footage for theaters, and thus providing fans with acompletly “different” film, it was not so with LWW. Seeing as a good portion of what may have been cut was more Susan/Caspian material,I doubt any of us would want that reinstated. If we hear otherwise, you can count on NarniaFans to break the story.

It should be noted that this release date is an improvement over the “rumored” release date for the DVD of Nov. 25. The rumored date would have pit Prince Caspian against two big family oriented movies: Dreamworks Kung Fu Panda and Disney and Pixar’s Wall-E which would have made for some very stiff competition, esepcailly from families buying the DVD’s. This current date only pits it against one big juggernaut, The Dark Knight.

So NarniaFans, mark the date on your calenders and remember if you want the DVD, just make sure to specify which version you want when you ask Father Christmas for it.

Prince Caspian to DVD and Blu-ray on November 25th (RUMOR)

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

We’ve heard an early rumor about a November 25th Blu-ray release for the hit film ‘The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian.’ Stay tuned for an official announcement.

List price for the Blu-ray Disc would be about $39.98, but retailers typically put them on sale for a good discount within the first week. This is just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.

No word yet on bonus features for the DVD or Blu-ray releases.

Prince Caspian DVD and Blu-ray Disc Release in October?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I guess we’re better off just waiting for the official word from Walt Disney Home Entertainment. There’s a little bit of mis-information out there, and it’s primarily because someone misread the following:

Consumers who want to buy a Blu-ray player that supports BD-Live need to look for the “BD-Live” logo on the front of the machine.

Fannon said he expects the prices to drop over time as production meets demand and Hollis said he expects this technology to become standard in most new Blu-ray players by October.

Disney’s first BD-Live releases, Sleeping Beauty and Tinkerbell, will come out in October. Wall-E and Prince Caspian are in the pipeline but no release date has been set.

The only two BD-Live releases from Disney, in October, will be Sleeping Beauty and Tinkerbell. The article goes on to say that no release date has been set for Prince Caspian or Wall-E, though both are in the pipeline.

My guess would put Wall-E in November and Caspian in December.

Prince Caspian on DVD and Blu-ray Disc this December?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

According to Ultimate Disney, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is expected to come to Disney DVD and Disney Blu-ray Disc this December. No official word has been released yet, but it is very early information.

There’s no word, either, on any potential features for the disc. We do know that there are some deleted scenes that didn’t make the final cut. One in particular that the writers were happy was cut out of the final version of the film.

Prince Caspian Original Soundtrack to be released May 13

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Walt Disney Records will release the original soundtrack for Walt Disney Pictures/Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on May 13, 2008. The recording features score written by award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams and songs performed by Switchfoot (”This Is Home”), Regina Spektor (”The Call”), Oren Lavie (”A Dance ‘Round The Memory Tree”), and Hanne Hukkelberg (”Lucy”).

In 1950, the scholar, critic and writer C.S. Lewis published The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first of his seven-volume series, The Chronicles of Narnia, and established a modern legend. Adults and children alike fell in love with his stirring, action-packed adventure that was set in the middle of World War II bombing raids yet transported readers into an alternate and far more enchanted universe of mythological creatures waging an epic battle between good and evil.

Harry Gregson-Williams reunites with director Andrew Adamson for the 5th time after composing the scores for his Academy Award®-winning Shrek (co-composed with John Powell), the hit sequels Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, for which he collected Golden Globe and Grammy nominations for his score. He is one of Hollywood’s most sought after composers, working on a variety of high-profile projects, both animated and live-action.

Over the last several years, Gregson-Williams has composed such notable scores for Shrek the Third,Gone Baby Gone, Chicken Run, Man on Fire, Flushed Away, Domino, Spy Game, Déjà vu, Phone Booth, Veronica Guerin, Smilla’s Sense Of Snow, The Replacement Killers, Bridget Jones: The Age of Reason, Enemy of the State, Antz and Kingdom of Heaven, among others.

The multi-platinum selling rock band Switchfoot has written and recorded the original song “This Is Home,” which is heard in the body of the film and over the end title credits. They shot a video for the song with director Brandon Dickerson, who filmed their most recent video for “Awakening.”

“We are so honored to be a part of the Prince Caspian film with ‘This Is Home,’” says Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. “The Narnia stories have a really special place in my brother Tim and my lives. Our dad used to read these to us at bedtime when we were boys. Our imaginations were shaped on these amazing novels.”

The characters of C.S. Lewis’ timeless fantasy come to life once again in this newest installment of the Chronicles of Narnia series, in which the Pevensie siblings are magically transported back from England to the world of Narnia, where a thrilling, perilous new adventure and an even greater test of their faith and courage awaits them.

“As [the film's director] Andrew Adamson and I began early discussions about the musical possibilities for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” composer Harry Gregson-Williams said, “it became clear that the movie could take a score with plenty of edge and bite to it this time around, supporting the fast moving action and adventure that quickly unfolds.”

One year after the incredible events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway wondrous realm, only to discover that more than 1300 years have passed in Narnian time. During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct, Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Miraz, who rules the land without mercy.

The fast forward 1300 years in the future allowed Gregson-Williams to re-address themes from the first film as well as creating new ones. Director Andrew Adamson described, “For Prince Caspian, Harry drew not only on the beloved themes of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but also developed original, sympathetic themes for Caspian and the Telmarines. Harry has threaded these themes with the same beauty and originality as he has woven all the notes that form his wonderful scores.”

The four Pevensie children will soon meet an intriguing new character: Narnia’s rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne.

Gregson-Williams embraced the challenge of composing for these new characters. He described, “The early introduction of a fearful Prince Caspian fleeing for his life from the dangerous Lord Miraz gave me a wonderful opportunity to introduce this new and somewhat darker musical landscape right from the opening.”

Also drawing inspiration from C.S. Lewis was Switchfoot. “‘This Is Home’ was inspired by the book after re-reading it for the opportunity to write for the film,” continues the band’s frontman, Foreman. “I am always taken by [C. S.] Lewis’ ability to write about the bittersweet beauty in this world; this home we aren’t really made for but is the place we work out our humanity in the midst of our longing for our true home.”

Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media present The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in theaters on May 16, 2008. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Original Soundtrack will be in stores on May 13, 2008.
