News Blogger visits Dawn Treader Set

It was as though I pushed past the overcoats at the back of the wardrobe and wandered into another strange, wonderful world.

Yesterday, I was given a tour of the set of the latest Narnia film, “Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”

I wasn’t allowed to take photos of the set (you’ll have to wait for the movie to come to cinemas at the end of 2010) but I can describe some of what I saw. It was very impressive.

I saw four sets. The first one was a medieval, Italian village with dirt streets and high, stone, castle-like walls. Construction workers were pulling it down as filming was finished in that set.

The next three sets I saw were of the ship, the Dawn Treader, where most of the action takes place.

  1. “the galley (where the slaves would row)”?
Um… that had better be the author’s personal opinion and not the tour guise’s summary, because Narnia under Caspian’s rule didn’t HAVE slaves. Crewmen took shifts. 0.o

    Other than that–cool. ^_^
I wonder if they’ll get the three windows and painted paneling in the Cabin? And is the Italian-style village for the Lone Islands, or elsewhere?

  2. Interesting. And they said that the boat was formed off of some other famous ship?? All these sets sound so cool. I canNOT wait until 12-10-10

  3. I thought the same thing about the slaves.

Lol and too bad there is no new news on the MLG (sorry that was random)

  4. The article is listed under Madonna Scott, but the audio is of two distinctly male voices. You have to look toward the bottom of the page to see the article was written by Peter Scott. I did hear the name “Peter” in the interview, but am still trying to figure out who the other voice is.

  5. That was interesting, but I wish they had allowed her to take pictures. I would have loved to see some. 12-10-10 can’t come faster. I wish it could.

  6. OMG do they have tours for the public? Because I would love to go on tour there!! how much is it?

    • Sorry, no, they don’t offer tours to the public. That’s why no photos were allowed, too. If they did that, it would get in the way of filming.

  7. Lily of Arechenland is right there would never be slaves in Narnia, much lesson Caspiens ship! Everything else written was great though. I think the crew of VDT is doing a great job.

  8. The interview was with Dawn Treader publicist Ernie Malik, who Peter Scott, the writer of the article, calls his “tour guide.” Scott is a member of the local press who did an interview for the local radio station. The article was written by a man. (See the bottom of the web page.) The reason it says Madonna King at the top of the page is, I assume, because the report was aired on her Morning Show.
Hope that helps clarify this a bit. See also my article linked above.

  9. yeah…unfortunately, wishing for it out of the air doesn’t happen…bummer!
    I wish it too…again, it’s more than a year away…grr

  10. It might possibly be referring to the scene where Reep says goodbye to Ed and Lu towards the end of the book to go to Aslan’s Country. Or it could be referring to the scene where the kids see Aslan turn into a Lamb, and he tells them that they will no longer be going to Narnia.
