One of my favorite parts of going to movies is the soundtrack that accompanies the film.  I’m a huge fan of music that not only compliments a movie, but enhances the film so much that, without it, the film would not be as effective.  When it comes to the Narnia films so far, Lisbeth Scott’s vocals have been an ever present part of the experience, as the Pevensies enter Narnia, or on the journey to the Professor’s.  She has a new album coming out, with a campaign to support a children’s charity.  She also collaborated with composer Harry Gregson-Williams, whose music was present in the first two Narnia films.

For this week’s Mailbag, I looked in my inbox and realized a couple of things: first, there was only one e-mail for this week’s mailbag.  I could take this to mean that it’s not a good feature to bring back, but that would be ridiculous.  I enjoy the chance to answer e-mails and also to put my own voice into the site just a little bit.

On a related note, I share Andrew Adamson’s birthday.  Who knew?  Andrew, if you’re reading this, that must be the reason we have similar creative minds.

Prince Caspian Soundtrack Listing

Amazon.com has listed a possible track list for the Prince Caspian soundtrack. This is the first time that we’ve heard about artists such as Regina Spektor, Oren Lavie and Hanne Hukkelberg being on the soundtrack.

Of note is the lack of Lisbeth Scott’s name, which leads me to believe that she has not written an individual song for Narnia this time around, but is instead the featured vocalist on the score. Remember, she appeared on the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe score in the “Evacuating London” track.

1. The Call Performed by Regina Spektor
2. A Dance ‘Round the Memory Tree Performed by Oren Lavie
3. This Is Home Performed by Switchfoot
4. Lucy* Performed by Hanne Hukkelberg
5. Prince Caspian Flees Score
6. The Kings and Queens of Old Score
7. Journey to the How Score
8. Arrival at Aslan’s How Score
9. Raid on the Castle Score
10. Miraz Crowned Score
11. Sorcery and Sudden Vengeance Score
12. The Duel Score
13. The Armies Assemble Score

Lisbeth Scott returns to Narnia with Prince Caspian

Lisbeth Scott is the voice that you heard in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe during the train sequence, singing “One Breath.” According to her website, she will be appearing on the soundtrack to Prince Caspian. There is no word on the capacity of her appearance.

I loved her song “Where” from the soundtrack, and hope that she’ll be allowed to record another song.

She has also apparently seen the film, as in her news post from Tuesday, April 8th says: Many films as always..Prince Caspian is awesome!

You can also pick up a free MP3 of “Where” on her website, here.

You heard it here first! Look for an interview with Lisbeth Scott coming soon!

In 1950, the scholar, critic and writer C.S. Lewis published The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first of his seven-volume series, The Chronicles of Narnia, and established a modern legend. Adults and children alike fell in love with his stirring, action-packed adventure that was set in the middle of World War II bombing raids yet transported readers into an alternate and far more enchanted universe of mythological creatures waging an epic battle between good and evil.

Years in the making and meticulously created by director Andrew Adamson to match C.S. Lewis’ own vision of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe marks the live-action debut of New Zealander Adamson, who came to fore bringing worldwide audiences the Oscar®-winning Shrek and Shrek 2.

C.S. Lewis’ timeless adventure The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings — Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter — in World War II England who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of ‘hide-and-seek’ in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome the White Witch’s powerful hold over Narnia in a spectacular, climactic battle that will free Narnia from Jadis’ icy spell forever.

Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media present The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in theaters on December 9, 2005. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Original Soundtrack and Special Edition Soundtrack will be in stores on December 13, 2005.

Listen to Clips of the Narnia Soundtrack

SoundtrackNet has their First Listen of the Narnia Soundtrack online now. Here’s a little of what they said:

The production of the score for The Chronicles of Narnia was on a grand scale. From late September until early November, Gregson-Williams conducted the 75-piece Hollywood Studio Symphony and supervised the recording of the 140-member choir at Abbey Road in London. Additional solo musicians were recorded at his Wavecrest Studio, including vocalist Lisbeth Scott and electric violinist Hugh Marsh. The result is simply astounding. Bold orchestrations, strong choir, and careful thematic development define this score as one of the best of the year.

The Score:

The Blitz, 1940 (2:32)
Evacuating London (3:38)
The Wardrobe (2:54)
Lucy Meets Mr Tumnus (4:10)
A Narnia Lullaby (1:12)
The White Witch (5:30)
From Western Woods to Beaversdam (3:34)
Father Christmas (3:20)
To Aslan’s Camp (3:12)
Knighting Peter (3:48)
The Stone Table (8:06)
The Battle (7:08)
Only the Beginning of the Adventure (5:32)

The songs at the end credits:

“Can’t Take It In” – Imogen Heap (4:42)
“Wunderkind” – Alanis Morissette (5:19)
“Winter Light” – Tim Finn (4:13)
“Where” – Lisbeth Scott (1:54)

Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack Listing?

Dan Goldwasser of SoundtrackNet posted this listing on the Film Score Monthly boards. He’s a really reliable source, considering he’s been to many of the Narnia scoring sessions. One thing to make note of is that Amy Lee appears to have dropped the project entirely, replaced by Alanis Morissette.

The latest tracklist (per Disney) is thus:

1. The Blitz, 1940
2. Evacuating London
3. The Wardrobe
4. Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus
5. A Narnia Lullaby
6. The White Witch
7. From Western Woods to Beaversdam
8. Father Christmas
9. To Aslan’s Camp
10. Knighting Peter
11. The Stone Table
12. The Battle
13. Only The Beginning of The Adventure
14. Wonderkind, by Alanis Morissette
15. Bigger Than Me, by Imogen Heap & Harry Gregson-Williams
16. Winter Light, by Tim Finn
17. Where, by Harry Gregson-Williams & Lisbeth Scott

Also, the “special edition” release will not contain an “expanded score” as originally planned; rather, the music content on both releases will be identical. But the bonus DVD will have some nice extras! Harry Gregson-Williams composed the score.

Look for SoundtrackNet’s “First Listen” coverage soon.

You may recognize Tim Finn from Crowded House; and Imogen Heap from the Frou Frou.

Silvio from Narnia-Chroniken.de reports that Alanis Morissette appeared on a famous German late-night show called “TV Total.” She remarked that she had recently recorded a song for the film and that the lyrics will be about Narnia from the view of Lucy.
