NarniaFans Mailbag #44: Filming Order, Regina Spektor and Invisible Army

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

This week has been flying by.  I just remembered that it was Thursday, and that I hadn’t written this week’s mailbag.  So I’m spending lunch time writing this week’s installment.  I spent Tuesday riding roller coasters at Cedar Point, and around that day there were some really huge things happening in the world of Narnia.  The third film started shooting, and we’ve gotten some great photos of the Dawn Treader nearing completion.  I’ve got a couple of e-mails to answer this week, but before I do, I just wanted to give a status update on the secret project.  I’m currently working on speed issues on it, but it’s moving forward.  I have guests up from Florida so it’s going to take me a little longer than I had initially anticipated, but I hope that it’s worth the wait.

And a quick update on Chesterton’s The Everlasting Man that just came in from a woman named Barbara:  “C.S. Lewis’s appreciation for Chesterton’s The Everlasting Man in correspondence is well known. Tolkien borrowed the idea for Ents from Chesterton’s The Trees of Pride!  I hope these facts were brought to your attention.” Thanks Barbara!

NarniaFans Mailbag #43: Dragons Prow really Dawn Treader? Horse and His Boy contradiction?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Wow, it’s funny how a week can get away from you.  Especially when you’ve got a talkative painter working on your house, and you’re working from home simultaneously.  It’s been a busy week, and people have been informing me about my Harry Potter question from last week.  The interesting thing is that they pointed out some very interesting things.  See the previous mailbag for more details of that.  We’ve also had some very exciting things happening in the way of set photos and things.

Dawn Treader Wharf (Castle) Set at The Spit

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We’ve finally got a picture of the castle set from the other side of the it.  Turns out the castle is actually a wharf, and a mighty wharf indeed.  I’m impressed.  It’s a very well designed wharf, though it has a lot of work left to go, and for only a few days of filming, as the article says – only three days.  This is typical of filming, however, as that four weeks of work will also amount to only mere moments on screen.

More Dawn Treader Filming Details

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Gold Coast Film Studios will be busy this year, with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader only one of many projects filming there this year.   It’s very exciting to see filming ramping up so quickly, with the rumored start in only two days.  We will have to see what happens, however, as this article may move the start date closer to the end of the month.  We do know that Skandar Keynes is on the set, but he’s the only confirmed actor there, so far.

The Dawn Treader being built at ‘The Spit’?

Monday, July 6th, 2009

It has been but a few hours since I speculated on the name of the production company that they were using for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when this story comes in, from the Gold Coast:  They are building a set for the movie at ‘The Spit.’  It’s a huge set that is believed to be a fake ship.  The set gave away the ’secret location’ that the Narnia movie executives have been tight-lipped about. Updated with a sign posted there.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to film at Cleveland Point in September

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is due to start shooting on the Gold Coast in Australia later this month, and it looks like it will move to Cleveland Point at some point in September.  The film is still in pre-production, however, and no real start date has been set, according to our sources.  However, it’s looking like they are beginning to solidify details of start dates.

Last I had heard, filming would begin in August, and end in October.  However, there is a forum for the Australian Surf Rowers League where someone is “looking for several wooden boats to use in a film we are shooting on the Gold Coast. With view to hire or purchase.”  When asked when they would need them, they respond: “At this stage between 20th July to 5th Sept.”

Voyage of the Dawn Treader Casting Call, Open to Australians

Friday, June 19th, 2009

We’ve been promising news of casting calls whenever we receive them, and tonight Oswald the Lucky Rabbit e-mailed us with this update from StarNow.co.uk.  One of the stipulations is that you should be living in Australia for this.  Another item to note about the page is what it says near the top: Casting for Chronicles of Narnia – Invisible ARMY.  Could Invisible ARMY be the working title? They write:
