Karine twittered us about Imogen Heap’s new album, which is releasing August 24th or 25th depending on what part of the world you live in, called Ellipse. It includes a song called 2-1, which she wrote for Prince Caspian, but was decidedly too dark for the soundtrack, according to the music producers on the film. She decided, rather than letting good music go, to include it in her new album, which she finished a few months ago. If you would like to hear the song, or even the full album, we currently have the official music player here. The song is track #8, and it is 4 minutes and 42 seconds in length.

I was up at Barnes and Noble today, doing some writing and decided to take a stretch break and browse through the music and see if anything caught my fancy. Right in front on the Disney movie music section was a compilation album, Disney Box Office Hits. The CD features not one, not two but THREE songs from the Chronicles of Narnia films.

The songs included were “Can’t Take It In” by Imogene Heap from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and “The Call”by Regina Spektor and ” This is Home” by Switchfoot from Prince Caspian. Other artists featured include Jamie Cullum, Five For Fighting, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, John Travolta and singer/songwriter legend, James Taylor.

As this is a pop-complaition album, it gears more towards adult co-pop music and features no highlights from some of the film scores. The only instrumental songs included on the album are techno remixes of the theme from The Incredibles, and “Jack’s Suite” from Pirates of the Caribbean. For fans of motion picture scores this may be one to pass on, especially if they already own the soundtracks for the Narnia films.

However, for adults looking for a quick CD to pop in the car on those car rides, especially parents with children, this may be one to consider as it can provide a nice respite from the usual mind numbingly vapid children’s music they are forced to endure. Best of all ,since it features songs from a good number or recent Disney films, that means there is something for every one to listen to. Provided of course you can stomach a trans-techno remix of a great music score, and tolerate one minuscule ( but well written) Miley Cyrus song to make it worth it.

The track list is below:

1: Ever,Ever After ( Enchanted)-Carrie Underwood

2:Down To Earth ( Wall-E)- Peter Gabriel

3: Real Gone ( Cars)- Sheryl Crow

4:Little Wonders ( Meet the Robinsons)- Rob Thomas

5: This Is Home( The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian)- Switchfoot

6: Breakaway ( Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagment)- Kelly Clarkson

7: Cant’ Take It In ( The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe)- Imogen Heap

8: I Thought I’d Lost YOu ( Bolt)- Miley Cyrus and John Travolta

9: Our Town (Cars)- James Taylor

10: All I Know ( Chicken Little)-Five For Fighting

11: The Call ( The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian)-Regina Spektor

12: Where is Your Heart At? (Meet the Robinsons)- Jamie Cullum

13:Le Festin ( Ratatouilli)-Camille

14: Jack’s Suite ( Pirates of the Carribbean)- Paul Okenfield.

15: Unkle Reconstruction ( UNKLE)-The Incredibles

Imogen Heap, as you may know, wrote a song that appears on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe soundtrack. It’s the song “Can’t Take It In” that you hear right when the credits begin.

In a recent interview, she spoke about the challenge of writing the song, as she only had a week to write and record it:

After that, the calls from the TV and film studios poured in. A highpoint was being asked to provide a song for a climactic scene in the recent version of The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe.

“I was about to go on holiday with my boyfriend to the Grand Canyon and I got a call from them,” she recalls.

“They invited me in and they were all giving it the hard sell so I said, ‘This sounds great, when do you need it by?’ and they said, ‘Well actually we need it next week so you’re going to have to cancel your holiday’.

“They always seem to leave the big song to the last week for some reason. I managed to get it done in a week but it was really difficult.”

Walt Disney Records will release two versions of the soundtrack for Walt Disney Pictures/Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on December 13, 2005.
In 1950, the scholar, critic and writer C.S. Lewis published The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first of his seven-volume series, The Chronicles of Narnia, and established a modern legend. Adults and children alike fell in love with his stirring, action-packed adventure that was set in the middle of World War II bombing raids yet transported readers into an alternate and far more enchanted universe of mythological creatures waging an epic battle between good and evil.

Years in the making and meticulously created by director Andrew Adamson to match C.S. Lewis’ own vision of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe marks the live-action debut of New Zealander Adamson, who came to fore bringing worldwide audiences the Oscar®-winning Shrek and Shrek 2.

Harry Gregson-Williams reunites with director Andrew Adamson after composing the scores for Shrek and the subsequent box-office smash, Shrek 2. Gregson-Williams is well-known in the world of animation, having also scored the features Antz and Chicken Run. Named The Hollywood Composer of the Year 2005 by the Hollywood Film Festival, Gregson-Williams created the scores for a long and extremely varied list of films, including.
The Special Edition Soundtrack set will include a 40-page collectible souvenir booklet filled with film imagery, liner notes by director Andrew Adamson and quotes from composer Harry Gregson-Williams. The package will include a DVD with a Film Art Gallery, Concept Art Gallery, the Theatrical Trailer, Behind the Magic of Narnia: Featuring the Score with Harry Gregson-Williams and Music Inspired by the Film.
C.S. Lewis’ timeless adventure The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings — Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter — in World War II England who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of ‘hide-and-seek’ in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome the White Witch’s powerful hold over Narnia in a spectacular, climactic battle that will free Narnia from Jadis’ icy spell forever.

Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media present The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in theaters on December 9, 2005. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Original Soundtrack and Special Edition Soundtrack will be in stores on December 13, 2005.
