Disney Launches New Narnia-related Educational Tools

A new series of accredited educational programming is now available on DVD from Disney Educational Productions, a division of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

The series, “The Science of Disney Imagineering,” has four titles to help students learn about Trajectory, Gravity, Levers and Pulleys. The lessons demonstrate how these scientific principles apply to thrill rides, roller coasters and other amusement park attractions.

Additional educational products include two new literacy programs based on the C.S. Lewis books The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

All titles are $49.95 and are available at disneyeducation.com as well as Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Walden Media Brings Libraries Into the Wardrobe

For Walden Media, recapturing imagination and rekindling curiosity doesn’t begin and end in the movie theatre. Walden Media will sponsor an exhibit tour to promote Walt Disney Picture’s and Walden Media’s upcoming film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved 1950 novel, due to open in theaters on December 9, 2005.

The free exhibit – which features props, costumes, and behind the scenes footage from Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media’s December 9th release, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe – will visit select libraries. Walden Media is working with these libraries and local educational organizations to create programming related to the exhibit and the book and film on which it is based.

A list of scheduled library stops is below:
Orlando Public Library – October 21-24
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library (Washington, DC) – October 28-November 1
Boston Public Library – November 3-8
New York Public Library, Jefferson Market Branch – November 10-14

The exhibit will be open to the public during library hours.

Partnering with Walden Media will be organizations such as Walt Disney World, Everybody Wins! DC, Just Read, Florida!, the Massachusetts Department of Education, and Read Across America.

The assets (like the wardrobe and costumes used in the film) will be on a nationwide tour of 10 cities through the public libraries.

Each city will host a media event, including a press conference, celebrity readings, and an opportunity for children to tour the exhibit and participate in educational activities.

In conjunction with the exhibit, Walden Media will make educational donations to 200 libraries nationwide. Participating libraries will receive a Narnia Theatrical Display, copies of the novel, bookmarks, and Educator’s Guides.
