Dawn Treader Footage Pleases Asbury College Professors

Many of you will recognize Dr. Devin Brown as the writer of Inside Narnia and Inside Prince Caspian.  He’s hard at work on the next edition, Insider The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, at the moment.  A colleague of his is Professor Greg Bandy, who works in the media communications department at Asbury College.  Both were in attendance at the Narnia Summit last week, and were equally fun to talk to and joke around with.  It was great to finally meet them both in person, and to get their insights into the films, especially surrounded by Dawn Treader for two days.  Both came away from the summit with a positive view of the direction that the film-makers have taken with this film.

First Voyage of the Dawn Treader Footage Screened

Over the last couple of days, I’ve been in Los Angeles with many fascinating people from all over the United States.  Grace Hill Media, Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media were our host as we gathered for the L.A. Lakers and Boston Celtics basketball game on Thursday night, while meeting Mr. Phil Anschutz, the owner of Walden Media.  It was an incredible night, meeting many of the people that are going to be incorporating Narnia into their programs this year.

Asbury College: Engaging the Culture – Weekend Report

We made an attempt to get someone to this event, but sadly the one person that might have been available had to work during the event. Thankfully another Narnia fan site was able to have someone in attendance. I would have gone myself, but I had a wedding to go to during the conference. Micheal Flaherty is a great friend of mine, and I would have loved to see him again.

C.S. LewisThe C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society is now accepting registrations for its twelfth annual meeting on March 26-28, 2009, addressing the theme “Inklings: Dinosaurs or Contemporaries?” and featuring plenary speaker Peter Schakel. See below for more details. Please click here to see the seminar schedule (as a PDF). A detailed schedule will be available mid-February.

In papers and plenary sessions, the conference will explore ways in which C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams may (or may not) be particularly relevant to the literary, theological, philosophical and socio-political issues of our own early 21st century times. As in previous conferences, we would like to extend the conversation to include Dorothy Sayers as well, and we would like to open the conversation even a bit further this year by including G.K. Chesterton, a strong-minded proto-Inkling of sorts, in the mix. What might this diverse and pleasantly provocative circle of thinkers have to offer to the world of ideas that we find ourselves in?
