First Look at The Dawn Treader!

We’ve got a picture of the Dawn Treader, which is currently being built at Cleveland Point in Australia.  It’s a beautiful ship that I look forward to seeing in action.  It’s still incomplete, but it’s really getting close.  Check out the detailing on the side of it.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is due to start shooting on the Gold Coast in Australia later this month, and it looks like it will move to Cleveland Point at some point in September.  The film is still in pre-production, however, and no real start date has been set, according to our sources.  However, it’s looking like they are beginning to solidify details of start dates.

Last I had heard, filming would begin in August, and end in October.  However, there is a forum for the Australian Surf Rowers League where someone is “looking for several wooden boats to use in a film we are shooting on the Gold Coast. With view to hire or purchase.”  When asked when they would need them, they respond: “At this stage between 20th July to 5th Sept.”

The Brisbane Times is reporting that the Environmental Protection Agency has thrown its support behind plans to use Moreton Bay as a major film set for the next Chronicles of Narnia movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Redland City Council last night also backed the proposal, which would involve building a pier off Cleveland Point, south-east of Brisbane, and anchoring a barge in the bay as the site of a 40-metre-long film set ship.

Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media have considered using Cleveland Point or Wellington Point to film some of the scenes for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Dawn Treader Updates from the Redlands

FILMMAKERS have cast their eyes over the Redlands for potential locations in the next Narnia movie.

Redland Shire Council this week revealed Disney Pictures was interested in using Cleveland Point or Wellington Point in its production of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which is expected to be filmed next year.

The Australian Film and Television Commission, which was involved in the location scouting, has refused to confirm any details because no arrangements have been finalized.

However, a report presented to the council’s planning and policy committee meeting on Wednesday said the film’s producer, director and key staff visited Wellington Point and Cleveland Point in September to look at sites.

The report said if Cleveland Point was used, a 60m long by 50m wide pier would have to be constructed, along with a 20m wide by 40m ramp.

The Dawn Treader set, a 40m vessel, would be attached to the pier.

Filming would take place between June and September and about 400 production crew would provide a boost to the local economy, the council report said.

Any damage to the parks would be “fully repaired” by Disney at the end of shooting.
