Eddie Izzard cast as Reepicheep in Prince Caspian

Another report from BNAT 9 has revealed the voice of Reepicheep: “KnightShift” was in attendance at the event, and revealed more of just what went on with the Narnia portion of the event. You can’t blame others for not reporting on it. It is, afterall, 24 hours of straight film watching. Eddie Izzard (stand-up comic, voice of Bee Army General in Bee Movie) will be the voice of Reepicheep in the Prince Caspian movie. KnightShift reports:

When we came back, we saw the trailer for THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN and then Moriarty did an on-stage interview with Mark Johnson, one of the movie’s producers. This was followed-up by a five-minute segment of footage that for the most part hadn’t been seen by the public before. A lot of the effects were unfinished, but it was pretty cool to check out Reepicheep in action. We also heard that Eddie Izzard would be voicing Reepicheep.

Big thanks to Hollywood Jesus for the reciprocal story about Reepicheep!

Has Casting for Eustace Begun?

Friday, June 29th, 2007

An IMDb user called ‘cppelham,’ whose son has auditioned for a Walden Media production or two, has recently posted that auditions are underway for the role of Eustace Clarence Scrubb for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We don’t yet have official word on this, so if anyone knows, please contact us ASAP.

He reports:

The casting for Eustace began last week, with dozens of boys. The process should take ages. Boys are just being filmed now and next week as well so I suspect the next round will start in 2 to 3 weeks. Lots of people on holiday though, so hopefully they will get it done quickly.

Dawn Treader’s New Casting Director, Production Designer

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Joining director Michael Apted on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader are production designer Jan Roelfs and casting director Nina Gold.

Jan Roelfs has worked on such films as Little Women (1994), Gattaca (1997), Alexander (2004) and World Trade Center (2006). He was nominated for two Academy Awards as Art Director. Welcome to the crew, both of you! We look forward to seeing your work! Jan Roelfs takes the reigns from previous art director Roger Ford. Nina Gold follows Pippa Hall and Gail Steven’s work on the previous two films as well.

Welcome to Narnia, Sergio!

Bio from Film Society of Lincoln Center: With four films slated for release within the first half of 2005, Sergio Castellitto seems well on his way to becoming one of the most popular Italian actors for international audiences since the heady days of Mastroianni and Gassman. Born in Rome in 1953, Castellitto became active in the theater while in his twenties, working with some of Italy’s finest stage directors. In the 80s he began appearing regularly in films, and by the 90s had graduated to leading roles for directors such as Marco Ferreri (La Carne), Francesca Archibugi (THE GREAT PUMPKIN), and Giuseppe Tornatore (THE STAR MAKER). But it was with a French film, Jacques Rivette’s Va savoir, that Castellitto really attracted international acclaim. Playing Ugo, the artistic director of an Italian theater troupe visiting Paris, Castellitto brilliantly captured a certain kind of contemporary artist/intellectual, a man simultaneously completely self-centered and painfully aware of just how self-centered he is. Indeed, it’s his very “contemporary” quality that makes Castellitto such an appealing figure. There’s a wonderful sense of irony, a kind of world-weariness belonging to someone who thought he had seen everything. One can see this in his growing bafflement in My Mother’s Smile, as he gets caught up in a plot he no longer thought was possible; or in his reaction to discovering the chummy relations between talk show superstars of the political Left and Right in CATERINA IN THE BIG CITY. Castellitto isn’t an “everyman,” but there’s something that assures us that we know someone just like him. Besides acting, Sergio Castellitto has also tried his hand at directing, and his second film, DON’T MOVE, co-starring Penelope Cruz, was one of the great critical and commercial successes in Italy last year. – Richard Peña
