Dawn Treader’s Hydraulics Test – Set Photos

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

In the last day or so, the crew has been testing the hydraulics system that will make the ship sway like it is on water.  They’ve got the ropes complete, if not very nearly so, and they’ve got a familiar-looking lantern at the top of the rear mast.  On a closer inspection, it’s definitely not the same lantern, which is good, because that would likely have caused a controversy.  But it is a great part of the ship that really makes it feel more Narnian than viking.  Narnia Fans Spy Kylie sent us an update with these great photos, which you can see more of on her flickr account.

First Sighting of Aslan in Dawn Treader

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Our friends at MundoNarnia.com have received the first picture of Aslan on the beach for a scene in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  It looks like they’re again using their Aslan statue as a stand-in for the computer animated version when the effects artists have a go on him.  I can’t wait to see what this scene will be when the movie comes out.  As we all know, Liam Neeson is returning to the role that he’s played so well in each of the last two Narnia adventures.  This is our first look at a location in which Aslan appears in the film, which looks like he’ll make an appearance on the beach.  Looks like there’s also a green screen there.  I wonder what they’ll be putting into the shot.  Any theories on the scene?

The Dawn Treader nearly ready for its Sail!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Wow, you get really busy filming videos and pictures come in from all over the web.  Narnia Fans Spy Kylie wrote to us earlier this week with some new pictures of the Dawn Treader, with a huge set of ropes and hooks attached at the top.  It’s looking like they’re preparing to use the part of the mast that they’ve included on the ship, very shortly, to attach a sail.  Based on the size of the ship and the height of the mast, it looks like the overall mast will be much much taller in the final film, which will make for a breathtakingly beautiful Dawn Treader.  It’s a technique that was used in Pirates of the Caribbean as well as Master and Commander and other such films with ships such as these.

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Laura BrentThe Voyage of the Dawn Treader’s cast keeps filling up as they’ve cast the role of Ramandu’s Daughter in an Aussie actress called Laura Brent.  She’s an actress that has been in some small roles, but there was likely something particularly special about her that caught the eye of the casting director.  She’s likely another up-and-coming actress, having appeared in an Australian tv series called Chandon Pictures and a small role in the film Message from the CEO.
