Dawn Treader Wharf Set Video – Aerial View

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Narnia Fan Spy Craig White sent us this video from Channel 9 News in Australia that features a terrific aerial view of the wharf set that we finally had some clarification on yesterday.  It will only be used for three days of shooting.  One thing that is interesting about the report is that they said filming would begin in three weeks. One question on our minds is what part of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader is this going to be? More, and the video, after the break.

C.S. Lewis Southwest Regional Retreat: Oct 30 – Nov 2

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

This fall, come to the woodland retreat of Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas, for a weekend of fellowship, worship, learning, and performances of music and dance!

From the 1930s to the 1940s, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and their friends and fellow writers met to share good fellowship and their creative works-in-progress. Known as the “Inklings,” they produced some of the most beloved works of the 20th century.

NarniaFans Mailbag #43: Dragons Prow really Dawn Treader? Horse and His Boy contradiction?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Wow, it’s funny how a week can get away from you.  Especially when you’ve got a talkative painter working on your house, and you’re working from home simultaneously.  It’s been a busy week, and people have been informing me about my Harry Potter question from last week.  The interesting thing is that they pointed out some very interesting things.  See the previous mailbag for more details of that.  We’ve also had some very exciting things happening in the way of set photos and things.

Dawn Treader Wharf (Castle) Set at The Spit

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We’ve finally got a picture of the castle set from the other side of the it.  Turns out the castle is actually a wharf, and a mighty wharf indeed.  I’m impressed.  It’s a very well designed wharf, though it has a lot of work left to go, and for only a few days of filming, as the article says – only three days.  This is typical of filming, however, as that four weeks of work will also amount to only mere moments on screen.

Dawn Treader Castle Set Pictures?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

There seems to be a lot of pictures coming from the set this time around.  This round of pictures features a castle set on the shoreline, as well as some pieces of what might be part of the castle still in construction.  I have other thoughts though, as all of these sets cannot be for the beginning of the film alone.  Perhaps some of the set pieces are from other locations in the story.  The Voyage of the Dawn Treader takes place over many islands and there are other buildings that they come into contact with along the way.  Perhaps it’s the magician’s house?  We’ll have to wait and see!

MundoNarnia has interviewed Storyboard Artist Mike Vosburg about his work on The Chronicles of Narnia.  He did work on each of the films, including spending about a year working on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  He has also spent some time working on Harry Potter as well as Walden Media’s Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.

More Set Photos featuring The Dawn Treader

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

More set photos have surfaced, involving the Dawn Treader in separate pieces, as well as other views around Cleveland Point.  It looks like a very nice place to shoot.  There is a sign posted with a Dragons Prow logo on the top, which features a silhouetted head of a dragon and the title underneath in all caps.  You can see more details on the different portions of the boat, that will eventually become the iconic ship in the film.  I’m guessing that it comes apart to accommodate filming.

First Look at The Dawn Treader!

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

We’ve got a picture of the Dawn Treader, which is currently being built at Cleveland Point in Australia.  It’s a beautiful ship that I look forward to seeing in action.  It’s still incomplete, but it’s really getting close.  Check out the detailing on the side of it.

More ‘Dawn Treader’ Set Photos

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

We received word from MundoNarnia about some new photos that have surfaced from the set of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at The Spit.  It seems that a lot of progress has been made in the last few days.  If they’re shooting the film right now, though, the set doesn’t appear to be ready.  It’s close, though.  There is still no word as to who has arrived in Australia for the film shoot, aside from Skandar Keynes.  All that I know is that it’s on schedule to make it’s release on December 10, 2010, as scheduled by Fox and Walden Media.  It’s sure to be a good way to spend the holiday season, and to bide our time for The Hobbit a year later.
