Author Kit Whitfield’s debut novel “Bareback” is going to be produced by Warner Brothers under the watchful eyes of producer Graham King and director Andrew Adamson.
Kit Whitfield was born in 1977 to an English father and an Irish mother. She grew up in London and is a graduate of the Creative Writing course at UEA. Bareback is her first novel, the film rights of which have been sold to Warner Bros for an undisclosed six-figure sum, with Graham King (Gangs of New York, The Aviator) to produce and Andrew Adamson (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Shrek) to direct.
About the story:
Lola Galley is used to doing things she doesn’t want. She certainly doesn’t want to be assigned the case of Richard Ellaway, the man who, under a cold full moon, mutilated a good friend of hers. But being a bareback, what she wants and what she gets are seldom the same.
For those born feet-first, life is comfortable, and one night a month they lock themselves in a secure room to fur up in peace. Barebacks, trapped in their human skin and drafted at eighteen into the Department for the Ongoing Regulation of Lycanthropic Activity, don’t have it so easy. A full moon means patrolling the silent night in search of transformed citizens breaking the curfew. The rest of the month, DORLA agents mop up the after-effects of the trespasses, the fights and the maulings.
Resignedly, she takes the case – but before Ellaway can be tried, her maimed friend is murdered. Lola wants justice. She’ll settle for the truth. But in a divided world, asking for the truth may bring answers that you don’t want to hear.
Here is a video from the set of Prince Caspian featuring what looks like Georgie Henley (Lucy Pevensie) with slightly longer hair. She’ll be reprising her role from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2008’s Prince Caspian.
This video appears to have been shot from a car near the set. It was actually shot by Steven Hofmann. Awesome work, Steven!
ComingSoon.net visited ShoWest, where Disney previewed their 2007-2008 film line-up. The 2 1/2 hour International Distribution Marketing Presentations culminated with Disney/Buena Vista batting clean-up with an impressive line-up of footage and trailers, many of them having never been seen previously. It included never-before-seen footage from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Ratatouille, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Enchanted and even a preview of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
They then showed an impressive production reel for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which will open on May 16, 2008, including concept art for the sequel’s new characters and soundbites from director Andrew Adamson and make-up FX supervisor Howard Berger, talking about the differences with the sequel and how they’ll get a chance to show how the different creatures fight, and there was accompanying battle pre-vis to demonstrate what they meant.
Bio from Film Society of Lincoln Center: With four films slated for release within the first half of 2005, Sergio Castellitto seems well on his way to becoming one of the most popular Italian actors for international audiences since the heady days of Mastroianni and Gassman. Born in Rome in 1953, Castellitto became active in the theater while in his twenties, working with some of Italy’s finest stage directors. In the 80s he began appearing regularly in films, and by the 90s had graduated to leading roles for directors such as Marco Ferreri (La Carne), Francesca Archibugi (THE GREAT PUMPKIN), and Giuseppe Tornatore (THE STAR MAKER). But it was with a French film, Jacques Rivette’s Va savoir, that Castellitto really attracted international acclaim. Playing Ugo, the artistic director of an Italian theater troupe visiting Paris, Castellitto brilliantly captured a certain kind of contemporary artist/intellectual, a man simultaneously completely self-centered and painfully aware of just how self-centered he is. Indeed, it’s his very “contemporary” quality that makes Castellitto such an appealing figure. There’s a wonderful sense of irony, a kind of world-weariness belonging to someone who thought he had seen everything. One can see this in his growing bafflement in My Mother’s Smile, as he gets caught up in a plot he no longer thought was possible; or in his reaction to discovering the chummy relations between talk show superstars of the political Left and Right in CATERINA IN THE BIG CITY. Castellitto isn’t an “everyman,” but there’s something that assures us that we know someone just like him. Besides acting, Sergio Castellitto has also tried his hand at directing, and his second film, DON’T MOVE, co-starring Penelope Cruz, was one of the great critical and commercial successes in Italy last year. – Richard Peña

Director Neil Burger (The Illusionist) had been in talks to direct Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but it appears that talks may have either fallen through, or he just decided to go with another project entirely that would be filmed at the same time.
According to Variety: Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena will star in “The Return,” which Neil Burger will direct.
Lionsgate won out as North American distributor this week and is eyeing a December rollout. Production is set to begin in May.
Burger co-penned the screenplay with Dirk Wittenborn. Story follows three soldiers returning from Iraq who become companions on an unexpected road trip across the U.S.
Bill Block, whose QED Intl. is financially backing the project, will exec produce with Paul Hanson and Adam Merims.
“Ocean’s Thirteen” scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien are producing with Rick Schwartz (“The Departed”) and Burger.
Following “The Illusionist,” on which Koppelman and Levien were also producers, Burger had been in talks to helm the next installment of Disney’s “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise.
“Neil had many opportunities,” said Block. “But it is a credit to his vision and validation in sticking with this project.”
UPDATE: The Return released September 26, 2008 under a new title: The Lucky Ones.

Here’s part of her entry:
Why I am the ultimate Narnia fan.
Narnia has been my favorite place since childhood. My car has a “There’s no place like Narnia” bumper sticker, my house has a Narnian Lamp Post in the front yard, we read all seven books in The Chronicles of Narnia aloud dramatically as a family, with our four children (conveniently, 2 boys and 2 girls) reading the parts of Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy, while my husband, Jim, and I read the other parts. (Yes, we have six complete sets of the books at our house.) Last Halloween I carved pumpkins featuring Aslan and the Lamp Post.
