Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Logo Surfaces

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Licensing Show - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader LogoA low-quality picture of the “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” logo is posted in an entry on the Jim Hill Media blog.

Check out the entry here.  The VDT logo appears about half way down the page.  It’s very similar to the original logos for both The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian, which is great considering the change in production studio.

Narnia Toys On Clearance!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

It seems just like yesterday we all were salivating ( or in the cases of some fans, foaming at the mouth) in anticipation for the next Narnia film. Well, now Prince Caspian is playing in dollar theaters and we are getting ready for the big release of Narnia on DVD.

Whilst doing some browsing around at some local stores, I found that all toys related to Prince Caspian are on clearance. Warehouse stores like Target, Wal-mart and K-Mart have the toys marked as low as 75% off. This means you can get the whole collection of Narnia toys with out so much as breaking the bank.

For those who wanted the toys but were short on cash, now is the time to make like Pattertwig the squirrel and gather them up if you can. Some are harder to find then others, in particular Susan Pevensie, who happens to come with Reepicheep. ( The only one I was unable to find.)

Want to reenact scenes from the book? Play out how you wanted the movie to go? Or perhaps go crazy and have Reepicheep duel Yoda? Well, now is your chance!

Toy Collector Magazine: Prince Caspian Toys from WETA

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

WETA wrote us today, telling us about the latest issue of Toy Collector Magazine, that is currently available for download.

There’s a terrific article about WETA’s Prince Caspian line of toys, followed by a small one about the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe line from a couple of years ago.

Here’s an excerpt:

CS. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia has been a classic in the realm of fantasy since The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe first hit bookshelves in 1949. The storyline follows the adventures of four London children who are sent to a professor’s country home to put them out of harm’s way during World War II. There they discover a magic wardrobe that leads to a mystical land – Narnia – whose ruler is a malevolent witch.

In late 2005, the movie version of Lewis’ fantasy tale joined the ranks of highest-earning films of all time with a worldwide box office take of almost $745 million. Along with the amazing film, titled The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, came more Narnia merchandise than even the literary genius C.S. Lewis ever could have imagined. Toy stores were filled with action figures and role-play toys, and the shelves of collectors were adorned with some of the finest statues and replica weapons ever made.

A couple of years may have passed, but with last month’s release of the new Narnia film, Prince Caspian, the hunger for collectibles based on Lewis’ characters is as strong as ever. Whether you are looking for toys for the kids, or a high-end collectible that you’d never let your kids near, there’s something for everyone coming to market in the next couple months.

First chance to order The Warrior Satyr from Weta

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Prince Caspian - Warrior SatyrThe first piece in the range of collectibles for Disney’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian that Weta announced earlier this month is now available to pre-order from Weta’s website.

The Warrior Satyr is based on a concept drawing by Weta designer Stephen Crowe: “I wanted quite an action-filled piece, and the real challenge was conveying that sense of movement and force in a static collectible. I wanted the Satyr to look defiant, as though he were in mid charge, about to attack.”

The statue is available in a strictly limited edition of only 300, so Weta recommend getting in early!

Further preview and pre-order announcements will be sent to Weta’s mailing list. Sign up at www.wetanz.com/mailinglist

Tonner Announces Plans to Make Narnia Character Figures

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Walt Disney Pictures’ epic film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, based on C.S. Lewis’ timeless tale, comes to life through Robert Tonner’s collection of TONNER CHARACTER FIGURES™ (TCF).

The life-like figures are authorized portraits of William Moseley in the role of Peter Pevensie; Anna Popplewell in the role of Susan Pevensie; Skandar Keynes in the role of Edmund Pevensie; and Georgie Henley in the role of Lucy Pevensie.

Robert Tonner, CEO and head designer of the award-winning Tonner Company, is thrilled to re-create the magic and mystery of Narnia through his figures. “I was intrigued when I heard about the movie. When I saw it, I was convinced that I had to do it.”

This project has been one of the most painstaking endeavors for Tonner. “So much of each character is in the presentation that we didn’t want to overlook a single detail,” Tonner admits. “We drew on our strengths to accurately depict those critical elements.”

Ranging from 13″-19″ tall, each perfectly replicated Pevensie sibling comes authentically dressed. The intricate costume details range from to real buttons and lace-up shoes to custom knit sweaters. The kings and queens of Narnia also have separate coronation costumes available which include fine details such as intricately molded crowns, hand-embroidery details and luxurious fabrics.

These wardrobe adventurers are perfectly scaled and composed of fine quality hard-plastic and vinyl. Each TONNER CHARACTER FIGURE™ features hand-painted face details and 14-points of articulation for the most realistic poses.

About Tonner: Headquartered in Hurley, New York, the Tonner Doll Company, Inc. develops and markets high quality collectible dolls like Betsy McCall®, Effanbee® Dolls, and the popular Tyler Wentworth® line of dolls and fashions, as well as other licensed characters, including THE WIZARD OF OZ dolls and HARRY POTTER™ TCFs.

MTV Photo Exclusive: ‘Prince Caspian’ Wer-Wolf Figure

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Brian Jacks wrote us to let us know that they’ve been given an exclusive look at a new Prince Caspian action figure. It is the figure of the Wer-wolf, which is an odd spelling of the word. They report:

As an upcoming blockbuster, it’s only natural that the latest entry to Disney’s “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise would have its own toy line. With that in mind, dig this exclusive look at one of the coolest (and secret, until now) characters from “Prince Caspian” …the Wer-wolf, a half-human/half-wolf hybrid that operates 24/7, regardless of full moon.

The figure, made by JAKKS Pacific, will retail for 10 bucks when it hits stores April 1. For much, much more from the world of movie toys, check out our coverage of Toy Fair 2008 appearing on the MTV Movies Blog starting this weekend.
