Voyage of the Dawn Treader Updates on Rhince and Rynelf

There are lots of rumors going around, and many are coming from the blog of Telmarine actor Mirko Grillini, who has the role of “Belligerent Telmarine” in the film.

If you don’t want to know much about changes to the film, then avoid this story. Otherwise, read on.

Here’s what Mirko wrote about the characters on his blog.

Arthur [Angel] plays Rhince in the film, joining the crew on board of the Dawn Treader to begin his voyage looking for his wife.

Narnia has now reopened the door to [Tony Nixon's] screen performance abilities with his role of Rynelf, the right hand of Captain Drinian (played by Gary Sweet). He is effectively my boss on the boat

Will Poulter talks Dawn Treader

You’re filming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader in Australia at the moment, how’s that going?

Will Poulter: Its really good fun thank you, I’m really enjoying myself but I am missing home quite a bit, especially my family and friends. Although I will be sad to leave I will be really pleased to be home for Christmas.

Your character, Eustace Scrubb, isn’t very well behaved and of course you played the ‘most badly behaved kid in school’ in Son of Rambow. How do you keep getting these type of roles?

Will Poulter: I know, I would really like to play a nice character for once! I feel quite bad about having to play those characters and I hope there is no one like Eustace Scrubb!

The famous introduction in the book by CS Lewis is: “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.” Would you say that’s a fair evaluation of your character?

Will Poulter: Absolutely. He is a complete brat, he’s obnoxious, rude, selfish and cowardly and has no respect for anyone other than himself. However he does become a much better adjusted person at the end of the book.

Dawn Treader Cast and Crew Celebrates Halloween

Oscar award-winning make-up artist Howard Berger threw a Halloween party for fellow cast and crew of the Chronicles of Narnia film on Saturday.

Berger, from the US, tells CC he was feeling homesick and wanted to bring the American holiday to the Gold Coast with a party at Southport Bowls Club.

He says Halloween is one of his favourite holidays and he’s even more enthusiastic than his teenage kids.

“I phoned to ask them about Halloween and they were like ‘Dad, it’s not until tomorrow.’ I’m more excited about it than they are,” says Berger, who has worked on blockbusters Inglourious Basterds, The Bucket List and Transformers.

It’s no surprise he is a fan of Halloween as he’s been a make-up artist for the world’s biggest horror films.

As filming for Chronicles of Narnia wraps up on the Gold Coast in three weeks lead actor Ben Barnes says he is sad about leaving.

Barnes, at a Halloween party for fellow cast and crew of the Chronicles of Narnia film at the Southport Bowls Club on Saturday, says he has enjoyed his time on the Gold Coast and is not looking forward to returning home to the UK.

“The Gold Coast is beautiful,” he says.

Skandar Keynes, who celebrated Halloween with cast and crew on Saturday at the Southport Bowls Club, tells CC the Gold Coast gives him the heebie jeebies.

That, and ‘evil pumpkins.’

But Keynes failed to give CC an explanation as to why he finds our town petrifying.

“I don’t know,” he says jokingly.

Ben Barnes talks Dawn Treader Book versus Film

In an interview about Dorian Gray, Ben Barnes was asked about the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Specifically, what may have changed between the book and the film. This is a question that we all have about the film, and though many fans would like to see the film shot page for page with the book, movies are completely different animals. Sometimes books don’t translate very well into movies as they are written. In our own minds they seem as movies, though, and based on each of our own imaginations, when we read Narnia, each of our experiences is going to be different. So how do you take C.S. Lewis’ very loose, open descriptions to film and make everyone’s version? You really can’t. But what about a story like that found in this book? Well, on film, it needs more than the book has. Here’s what Ben has to say about it.

Let’s talk about the “Dawn Treader” movie. I know you can’t reveal any spoilers, but what’s in the movie that’s different from the book?

Ben Barnes: They’ve stolen a couple of ideas from some of the later ["Chronicles of Narnia"] books. [It’s] a very difficult book to adapt, because it’s very episodic. It’s chapter by chapter. They go on the voyage, they go to one island, a bit more voyage, another island, a bit more voyage, another island. It’s very satisfying to read; every chapter by chapter, it’s very exciting. But it has no real through line. And so they have to kind of steal other elements to sew it all together. I think they’ve done it in a really clever, unobtrusive way.

What’s interesting is the first thing he says here: they’ve stolen a couple of ideas from some of the later (emphasis added) books. The questions I have now are: What books and what ideas from those books? Anybody have ideas for what it could be?

New Set Photos

The “It’s All About Ruby!” blog has posted an entry containing three pictures taken around the “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” set in Australia. Two of the three show the Dawn Treader in the background, and the distance from the photographer gives a good perspective about the size of the ship. The third is a close-up showing damage to the side of the Dawn Treader, with several actors — including two younger children — looking overboard. Look closely, and you’ll noticed a stand-in for Reepicheep near the edge, too.

The Description: Georgie Henley and an extra (?) called Gail jumping into the water. There were extras walking around in Narnian clothing (not the crew) so I’m guessing Gail has something to do with that… Also notice the boat has been smashed up.

Skandar Keynes celebrates 18th Birthday

Skandar Keynes from the Narnia film series, including the upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, was spotted celebrating his 18th birthday at the Swingin’ Safari on the Gold Coast with cast and crew.

Keynes plays the part of Edmund Pevensie, in the movies based on The Chronicles of Narnia written by C. S. Lewis in the 1950s. The third is being filmed on the Coast.

A regular Swingin’ Safari patron tells CoastConfidential it’s not the first time stars of the movie have been seen at the popular hot spot.

Swingin’ Safari owner Neil Beattie says the venue, which celebrated its sixth birthday at the weekend, appeals to stars because it offers privacy.

“It’s away from the main hub so they can grab a bite to eat and enjoy a few drinks without being hassled.”

Along with Skandar as Edmund, NarniaFans have been waiting for pictures of Georgie Henley as Lucy. Now at last, dear fans and friends we have them! For those fans wanting to spare themselves of feeling “old” by seeing how grown up Georgie has become, you may want to look away.

Below is one of the pictures from the set:

While she is certainly getting older, there is something about Georgie, that almost inherently remains “Lucy”. She does look a year or two older which will be perfect opposite Will Poulter who appears to be younger then her.

As described in the book, Georgie is wearing Caspian’s clothes as they did not have any dresses on the Dawn Treader and she had to borrow some of his. Whether or not she’ll be wearing some Narnian dresses at other points in the film has yet to be seen.
