Voyage of the Dawn Treader has a Release Date

Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media will release “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” on December 10, 2010.

The move means “Narnia” will once again be a winter franchise, and places it a day past the five year anniversary of the release of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005.

Twentieth Century Fox recently partnered with Walden on the “Narnia” film series after Disney and Walden parted ways.  It was an easy fit, since Walden Media and Fox have a partnership under the Fox Walden banner.  Disney was the publicity, financial support and distributor for the first two “Narnia” films. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe debuted in December 2005 and cumed $291.7 million domestically.

Prince Caspian was released last May to less spectacular results, cuming $141.2 million at the North American box office. Walden and Fox believe “Narnia” is better suited for a December release.

As of now, “Dawn Treader” has the 2010 date to itself.  Let the countdown begin!

I’ll hit the big four-zero age wise that year. But the books and films are for everyone – I remember reading them all at primary school and thinking what great films they would make. I’ve waited 30 years, but it’s been worth the wait.

The opening charge on the LWW battle scene is still awe-inspiring even after seeing it a number of times. An excuse to get a Blu-Ray player and large HDTV set if ever there was one.

VODT is a different beast though. It is about magic and mysticism rather than large scale battles. With production and costume design in the hands of Roger Ford and Issie Mussenden, visually it will be a treat. Get the screenplay up to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea standard and it will become a true classic. we shall see, don’t let us down Walden / Fox !

VODT has always been my favorite of the books by far, the one I’ve read more than any other. I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time — I’m 42, I first read the Magician’s Nephew when I was in first grade (that’s my 2nd favorite)

I can’t wait. I didn’t know that Disney was stepping aside. I hope that doesn’t put some parents off, and for that matter, I hope they still give it a kid-friendly rating. I hope they don’t gear it towards kids only though. I love the books, and the flicks have been great, too! I read them all when I was in 3rd and 4th grade, and I started reading them all over again recently (I’m almost 32 now). I’m just starting VoTDT now and I’m remembering how much I liked it. I’m so glad they’re making these movies. C.S. Lewis is still my favorite author to this day!! I love The Screwtape Letters (John Cleese audio book is hillarious) and wish they would make that into a movie, too. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop. Looking forward to the film.

I hope a better job is done on this movie than PC. The first was almost completely true to the book with only a couple of understandable differences but PC should have said “loosely based on the book by C. S. Lewis.” I hope that VDT holds true to the book. I have been reading this series for almost three decades and will start reading them to my grandson as soon as I can.

Prince Caspian was a great movie. All you people criticizing it because it is not exactly like the book are crazy. It was way better than the first one. The first one was good but it took a long time for the movie to get going. The first half hour of the first one was kind of boring but it got better as the movie went along. The second one was exciting from beginning to end, I am sure the third one will be the best one yet.

  9. Jasper Ghost says:

I can hardly wait. I loved the first two as much as my wife and kids did. I hope they are going to use the same two actors that were in the first two. I will let my kids know and the count down will begin.

  10. Shawn says:

I’ve read all the Narnia books at least 6 times. I hope all the books get movies made of them. I would love to see. The Horse and His Boy. I also hope to see the same actors and actresses playing their same parts.

  11. Renata says:

Well it’s not fair ive been told last year voyage of the dawn treader won’t be released until may 6 2010 but Walden Media is right it should come in december it will feel magical like the first one when it came out during christmas. I guess that’s how Lewis would have liked it.

  12. Renata says:

    Dear shawn,

It’s possible that all of the children will be in the the last battle movie because they’re all in the last book.

  13. sophie says:

i can’t wait!!!!!! the first two were great! i’m not sure what this one’s going to be like because i think there’s a different director i really hope no one changes the actors or actresses they did a great job!:)

  14. Laura says:
