I agree in part, because I felt the marketing came off as an undisguised attempt to bring out a lot of older fantasy fans, which is never the best idea for advertising for a film that is directed towards families. But I think that this was a darker and more violent film than the first Narnia and perhaps most other Disney films, so to market it as if it were the same as other Disney movies would be somewhat dishonest.

the one major problem with PC is their casting of prince caspian not to trump their poor advertisement but to add to it, in the books caspian was around 12 or 13 and they cast a 24 year old to play his part. if they really wanted to maintain the innocence and newness of the movie they should have taken the characters age into account I mean really it would seem much more family friendly if once again a child was suddenly placed into kingship. Also the romance that they twisted in the movie between caspian and susan showed up nowhere in the books. Most certainly PC was much more adult than LWW and therefore a box office flop where it could have been a box office success.

I think the summer release made them feel like they needed to be an action spectacular to compete with Iron Man blowing up a tank, which is not Narnia's strong point. Besides all of the metaphor and richness of the world, there is a sweetness to Narnia that is missing in the ads.

There is one thing I'd like to comment on, for this statement: Aslan going through town.

That sequence alone, due to the effects it would have taken, on top of telling the story, hiring the actors, extras, designers and crew, building the sets, and rendering the CG would end up with a price tag of around $50 million. This is just an estimate, and I'm probably estimating a bit on the low side.

That's one scene that, while memorable in the book, it is definitely something to skip to save some money, or a lot of money.

I agree, but I also think that because Disney changed so much of the story, like the castle raid and the exclution of when Aslan goes through the town at the end, also did not help Prince Caspian do well. Disney should try to stay true to Dawn Treader and actually make it a family film so the trailers will show it is one. That way, Disney doesn't have to lie about the movie in the trailes.

I Totally agree. If Disney had marketed Prince Caspian more as a family film it would have done much better. Family films are their strength and that is what they should stick with. I just hope they learn from their mistakes with Prince Caspian and aim The Dawn Treader more at families.
