We have just received words that a 7.0 earthquake has struck Christchurch, on the South Island of New Zealand. The quake hit at 4:35 AM New Zealand time. Strong aftershocks have been reported, including one measuring at a 5.3 magnitude.
Comingsoon.net has posted a lengthy set report from their time vising last summer’s production of “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” They write:
“The film was shot on location in Australia and ComingSoon.net was the only domestic outlet invited to the set. Not only did we talk to the director Michael Apted, but we were able to speak with the entire cast as well and watch them shoot a couple of scenes.“A lot of the movie was shot on soundstages on the Gold Coast, which is about 45 minutes from Brisbane and 20 minutes from Surfer’s Paradise. The day after we arrived, we hung out at the studio which was nestled between the Warner Brothers’ Movie World and a Wet n’ Wild water park. It was interesting, because all day you could hear people screaming from the roller coasters next door as you walked around the different stages.”
Today was a very good day. Courtney and I were driven to the port where the Dawn Treader awaited. When we got there, about eleven in the morning, we had to wait around for about an hour and a half. We made the best of it, though, climbing on a wall that must be thousands of years old and learning a song from one of the Italian women. The Dawn Treader has a certain number of people that it can hold safely so they had to get the numbers down before more people could be on board.
We’ve just spent a day on the Dawn Treader and a day off. The first day became so cold out at sea that they recommended that Courtney and I take a day off so that we don’t become sick while we’re on our honeymoon. That was very nice of them all. For those who don’t know, Courtney and I got married on Saturday and we’re now sailing around England on the Dawn Treader, aka The Matthew, for a week. We’re covering as much as we can with the second group of competitors. There are also some other promotional teams here, who are making spots for their various channels. Not sure I can talk about who they are just yet, but when we get closer to the release, you’re sure to see some of their videos.
The latest addition to the map on Narnia.com is Narrowhaven! The image in the background features our first look at who is likely Lord Bern! He appears to be handing Caspian a sword, which looks very intricate in design. We can’t see Bern’s face, however. I met Lord Bern when I was there, and he was a really great guy that had much to say about the national parks in America, which we spoke about for quite some time.
BenBarnesFan.com has been given a scan from a French magazine called One. The scan features an interview with Ben Barnes about his role as King Caspian in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
What can we expect from the third film?
It’s a much more mature and adult film than the two previous ones. The magical aspect that you all know hasn’t been left out, but The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is an adventure film rather than a pure work of fantasy. Caspian is now the new King of Narnia and, with Edmund and Lucy, he embarks on a great crossing aboard this boat, the Dawn Treader, to find the land of Aslan. So most sequences take place on the sea, which hasn’t been easy to film. In Hollywood, it’s often said that filming on the water is the most painful of all .. I agree! [laughs] But I enjoyed myself very much..
With the release of the film approaching, do you now feel less pressure on your shoulders than at the time of Prince Caspian?
Yes, a lot less. The release of Prince Caspian was very stressful for me because Disney had put forward the film’s promotion and everyone was waiting for me at the release. I really feared the reaction of the public and fans, I didn’t want to disappoint anybody. Today, I have three or four years more experience and I’ve learned to handle that pressure. I think I’ll tackle the release of this film with much more serenity.

These past two months we at NarniaFans have been fortunate to get the chance to read and review two brand new fantasy books. CS Lakin’s The Wolf of Tebron and KSR Kingworth’s Secret Speakers and the Search for Selador’s Gate were both wonderful stories and I’m glad they chose to share them with us. I had a lot of fun reading and reviewing them and I hope you all have checked them out.
Our friend Poggin gave us a heads up that this month’s “Voyage of the Characters” profile is now on-line. September’s character is Edmund Pevensie. The profile looks at Edmund’s background, his journey before the Dawn Treader and where his journey in Narnia will take him this time.
Hey, everybody, welcome to our exclusive interview with KSR Kingworth author of the new fantasy book, “The Secret Speekers and the Search for Selador’s Gate.” She has been very busy these past few months. Aside from promotions for her book, she was also recovering from an illness. Yet in the midst of it all she made time for our interview. A huge thank you goes out to her. I hope you all enjoy our interview and also take the time to check out her book. Read the rest of this entry »
The good folks over at Rawle & Windsor Publishing contacted us concerning a brand new fantasy series called The Secret Speakers.
